It seems to me that Laine is still having health problems.
Btw, Finland's coach said in December that he was gated because of the PP.
It's a copout at this point to use health. The guy just stands around waiting for the puck and doesn't seem to even force himself.

He finished the 4 Nations tournament with 3 points in 3 games. He’s one of only two players in his team who was in the positive +/-. I wish he would have scored a goal. He needed to shoot more, he only got 1 shot per game.

He’s still noticeably slow, I hope that improves with time. Small sample size but overall he’s had a good tournament.

I don't know how with Lundell and Luostarinen he can just wait for the puck. Especially if the defense is effectively AHL level. He was skating, forechecking, trying to defend like any Finnish player.

Even before Finland lost their 3 best defenders they were underdogs. The difference in talent between Finlands and the other teams D made it an impossible mountain to climb. The slow plays, poor puck movement and bad passing got them hemmed in their own zone too often and they had no flow on the offense largely because of that.

Only having Heiskanen there would have made a big difference. I'm not planning to watch Sweden vs USA, but if my insomnia keeps my up I might watch that game as well.

It's been fun to watch these games, I hope they repeat this with 6 teams the next time.

On topic: Laine played better than I expected and next season he's going to surprise those who are down on him now if he recovers his well and has more power in his skating.

If you remember, his first season in Columbus was horrible, the next two he played perfectly. Unfortunately, his third was ruined by injuries and mental problems.

So unless Montreal trades him, I expect something similar.

Overall good tournament by Laine.

Poor looking effort in two goals (2-0 and especially 3-0) by Canada.

His skating style makes him easy target for anger as he often looks like he isn’t trying as much as someone having to chop much more frequently to match Laine’s long stride.

Seemed to me that he very often tried to push play forward with one touch - and in several times failing to connect with a fellow teammate.

I wonder if it could be he tender knee that reduces his mobility and exertion. Possibly? Nah. He's just lazy, no excuse, that knee brace from the injury he suffered in October must be fake.

He's obviously laboring , plus he's a free asset luxury addition , not sure why so many people have an issue with him. Who's playing instead of him? Roy or Beck? Not like he's stealing a spot from anybody good

We would’ve had Joshua Roy’s breakout season if not for Patrik Laine

Didntchaknow

Either way, whether it is, eventually, as a 2nd line winger, or, perpetually, as a 3rd line winger, we will have to give Joshua Roy a real try to see what we really have in terms of NHL talent or not.

It would be a shame for a player with such talent to amount to nothing here and blossom elsewhere.

bro skipped leg day since 2010 I guess
It's actually good to see him slimmed down. But hopefully he does train hard in the offseason.

Dach has told Engels repeatedly he looks forward to this upcoming offseason, after losing last offseason, to really train hard, and work on his fitness. Easy to say that. Let's see if he does it.

Without Laine we don't have our little run for *the culture in the room*, take that as you will but you guys would all be crying even more all season lol.

Patty was always a project luxury for us , I don't see the big deal whatsoever
and we would be further down the standings where we belong. not a bad thing

More bad takes from you, it's incredible. He just stands there or if he has the puck tries to deke everyone and loses the puck. Turnover after turnover. He's bad. Yet you'll bag on a 20 year old actually trying :laugh::laugh:

So the knee brace is fake and for show, is what you’re saying?

You sure about that?

Laine — clearly wearing a decorative knee brace because he’s just an evil lazy bastard — is outproducing Slafkvosky.

HFBoards is right to laser focus all their anger and frustration onto Laine, he is simply an evil lazy bastard. Unlike darling angels Newhook, Dach, and Slafkovsky who simply are on the verge of greatness and shouldn’t be criticised for anything ever.

If only Hutson didn’t have a breakout rookie season, we would be lower in the standings too.
