Player Discussion Patrik Laine: Part 2 - Healthy Living Edition

I knew what Patrik Laine was before the Habs acquired him and so far, he's EXACTLY what I thought he was going to be.

He's much more broken than expected -- that knee injury + two years of less-than-stellar fitness (surgeries, injuries, and mental health rehab inclusive).

I think he can heal up and look and perform better.

Alex Newhook is 24 years old, Kirby Dach is 24 years old, and Patrik Laine is 26 years old.

Substantially older.

Thats almost 10 % older, which I agree is not a lot.

BUT if you count them with their NHL-born-age™ the age difference is HUGE. Meaning that you turn 1 year old when you turn 19 etc.

So Laine is 8 years old. Dach and Newhook are both only 6 years old. The expectations for 8-year-olds are and should be exponentially higher than for 6-year-olds.

This defies my logic. 6 year olds are less physically and mentally (I don't mean IQ) than 8 year olds, because by age 10 the differences are very big at one year. 24 year old player is as physically mature as 26 year old player, similarly mentally, the differences are only in experience, and even these differences are not very big.

Straight up answer, nothing controversial. People just like to make a big fuss about anything he says.

It would be odd to expect him to influence the score much with 10 minutes of icetime. Goes for any player. Yeah he hasn't been very good but who has lately?

You should have seen the crazy sound off 2 of my friends has when they saw the cut clip. I showed them this snip and no response. People now a days are addicted to outrage

Yup, they seek it. I don't understand it myself but seems to be a strong trend.

It was a tad flawed metaphore, but the thing that some are saying is:
- Laine is much more experienced in a top 6 and/or game breaker role than Newhook or Dach, and is also expected to deliver more than them.
- Laine is paid much more money than Newhook or Dach, and hence again expected to contribute more than them.

These 2 factors together mean that some are not prepared to give Laine as much time to recover and/or to deliver compared to Dach and Newhook.

It’s not a cut clip, though. A journalist asked him a question he then responded with his ‘’first’’ answer then 4-5 minutes after got another similar question and responded with the ‘’2nd’’ answer.

It’s not a case of him saying all of it in one response and the journalist cut the clip.

Not that his response is the end of the world, anyway.
