Some CBJ fans thought the team and themselves personally, would miss Laine.

Other fans, myself included, KNEW he wouldn’t be missed by ANYONE, and that Laine was literally one of the primary issues with the team.

Ultimately there currently isn’t a SINGLE actual CBJ fan that misses him in any way, and it’s clear the team also feels the same way, along with their play and success that changed immediately after he was removed.
Loved when JD said we're a better team without Patrik Laine. Man was he right. Laine is a cancer.

Now let's hurry up and get another 29 so I can renameplate my jersey lol

Congrats for missing the playoffs I guess.
Almost making the playoffs would be a huge win for this given the circumstances, actually making the playoffs would be one of the biggest sports stories in years.

Or did you forget the part where our franchise player was killed by a drunk driver in the off-season and we had to scramble to sign leftover UFAs to even become cap complaint.

CBJ wouldn't even be close to the playoffs if Laine was still on the roster. And we essentially just got cap space and a warm body in return and most fans are okay with it because the locker room is better for it.

I've always thought he buy his own hype. In his early years people were so desperate to make him and Matthews a storyline (not just here). I am sure he saw it and fancied himself better then he is, but for a short while he slightly lived up to it. Then when things get tough he can't/won't work on it and crumbles, gets moved or signs then the new city hypes him up and the cycle repeats. Habs fans were wetting themselves saying he was scoring 50+ etc at the start, gets a huge ovation before he plays a shift, he was a on pedestal. Now that he's struggled the fans turned on him and he buys the negative and is stuck in his own head in a different way.

I don't even think it's that deep. He's just not a hard worker. Period.

We will see if Laine will "return" to any meaningful form before the end of the season. We know that he can and will be a complete non factor for up to 50+ games straight.

He's exactly what most fans knew already. A streaky scorer who's a liability when not scoring. At times, he wins games single handedly and other times loses them. Very polarizing player. And bit lazy it seems.

I feel like he's really bad at reflecting on himself and actually trying to get better. All his interviews are pointless jargon but when has he actually identified his weaknesses and worked on them? For example, Barkov was a poor skater, so he took specific skating lessons, which improved his game.

I feel like Laine hasn't gotten any better as a player since he was a teenager. It's puzzling.
He genuinely got better on defense in Columbus, and was no longer a liability. He has regressed in the last 2 years, and honestly I'm not sure he can ever recover if his knee is busted. He was never a fast guy in the first place, with a weak knee his career is probably done.
