Value of: Patrik Laine 50% retained

He brings decent value to the team as a pure PP triggerman. Makes no sense to trade him away.

He seems to click well with the team too, i think he's happy here.
This looked true at the beginning of the year. At 4-Nations, though, he went in the media to say that at last he had linemates that made sense. I'm not convinced he fits in the culture HuGo are building.

Although I acknowledge that when your PP1 is constituted of Demidov, Suzuki, Hutson and Laine (+ Caufield or Slaf), it ought to be good. It's sure Laine brings something unique, but for all he leaves on the table, I think HuGo will be inclined to flip him. At 5 on 5, he doesn't really fit on a line with Demidov, except if you insert a very responsible two-way center between them to take charge of the backchecks and defensive chores.

Laine for Pageau no retention on either side.

Islanders get their goal scorer, Montreal gets a depth Center both 1 year left on their deals

That's not really interesting for the Habs tbh. Would much rather seem him with an healthy offseason, Demidov around for the year and hopefully improvements at C.

If he sucks, he goes. Getting a second while limiting our space is not worth it.

Agree. Only one season left on his contract and I bet the Canadians would like to have a fully healthy Laine rather than move him for less.

No. Pageau is barely better than Evans or Dvorak. The small improvement he brings in faceoff% over them isn’t worth tanking an already lacking power play.

Would a team have any interest in bringing Laine at 50% (aka cap hit at 4,35 M$) for one more year, to boost the PP, and if so, what is the return you would be willing to give?

I have zero interest in trading Patrik Laine and the idea of trading him and retaining half his salary is really, really, really unappealing.

Ah, reminds me when every Habs fan was trying to pawn Paul Byron on us in trade proposals some years ago.

What goes around comes around I guess.
Oh god, how many Paul Byron for _____ (insert Islanders player) did we get during that timeframe? Then again we had a small group of people who thought Mike Hoffman to the Isles was a good idea while failing to remember he’s completely inept as a hockey player away from the puck in the offensive zone (just like Walterson).

I'm all for moving Laine. The PP goals are nice but being a liability 5 on 5 cancels that out.
If someone wants him at 50% for future considerations, I'm in. Or full price for Pageau.
