I don’t think those were Jets fans. Those posters are now over on the Habs boards complaining that he deserves better line mates and more ice time.

Let the record show that Jets fans are all knowledgeable, respected, good looking, pillars of the HF community.

He’s not anyways good enough to be a line driver and he got into a bad mix in Montreal

Had missed a full calender year, you’d assume it’s going to take time to get back together and then he’s on the 2nd line with Dach who’s nowhere near 2nd line C in the NHL

The only way to get anything real out of him is if you have a legit 2C on your team and you can allow Laine to be a complimentary player to him
He’s too slow and lazy IMO and definitely needs a line driving C. Dach has really let the Habs down and his injuries have compounded the issues.

I think the knee injury is also still a problem with Laine.

I thought he was the most overrated prospect I'd ever seen and even I can't quite believe how bad he is. I thought he'd be putting up 30 goals at minimum every year but he can't even stay in the lineup long enough to do that. When he is actually playing he looks sort of lost.

I think he’s injured (knee) and also not in good athletic condition. He seems very brittle.

There’s a reason he had negative trade value.

This, plus his preexisting issues with skating make it even worse. He's just not physically able to do what he'd need to in order to be effective. Rehab to something useful should still be in the cards though.

Health and availability are 2 key traits for any player, and Laine quite obviously struggles in both... That's why the Habs got a 2nd to take him & his contract. But he's still a net positive impact when playing.

Habs are 18-12-2 with him in the lineup.
12-15-4 without.

And this is in a season where he showed some pretty impressive work ethic & grit returning quickly from a significant knee injury (one that quite clearly is still hampering him).

The negativity about the player in this thread seems quite exaggerated.

Laine had an awful season in his first season with the jackets, and he followed it up with his best seasons in pts/game.

Laine missed a whole year before playing for the habs, so makes sense he has struggle. Saw the same thing with Dach.

Probably Bryan Little's fault.

He's just a player who thinks he is more than he actually is while having off ice issues but tries to blame everyone around him. Amazing shot and early was surrounded by a lot of talent (most importantly Byfuglien) but I dont think he's fully understood that and has taken a hit since. He did play well with guys who did a lot of dirty work and could cover his turnovers like Jenner/Nyquist or with slow puck control guys that could find him like Voracek but there are a ton of players that just can't figure it out with him. He's got talent even if he's not an athletic guy, just needs to be more honest with himself on strengths/weaknesses

Montreal fans excited for Demidov to come over and be the guy to play with him but I think that will be a style clash that just isn't going to work and Demidov will be better off working with someone else

NHL is all about the 1st few steps and how you can change direction

Laines top speed is NHL easily but his touch looks way too heavy

& that’s what I absolutely hated on his offseason workout programs when he was training under Rautala. We sadly see the results

Montreal struggles to win without Laine's scoring though. They either need to run with him or replace him with someone that can match or surpass his scoring output. The team, without a Laine goal or assist, just can't seem to buy a win.

Considering his low TOI, his inactivity, and the fact that his knee seems to be held together by glue, I'd say he has done alright. There's plenty of guys on the team that aren't half as threatening despite being 100%. The way teams cover Laine also leaves other guys wide open on the PP.

Well, Laine has still gone further than Matthews has ever been in the playoffs. He was dynamite that year and a big reason for the playoff success. Laine also was a big part of his IIHF U20 team winning gold. Matthews has never come up big when he needed to, and may go his entire career like that. Careful what you gloat over.

Was Laine just as lazy a player when he was a Jet? I cannot tell if its his knee injury or if its effort level. He’s slow and disengaged.

Jets fans??
