What would the Stars want for him. I see a lot of talk just dumping him as his speed is a bit gone.

I think he would help close the Habs top 6. The Habs would have to send cap back but throw in prospects or picks for him.

So what would it cost?

Trevor Daley and Ryan Garbutt.

Seriously, he isn't the player he used to be but could fetch 1st if 50% retained. Dallas won't trade him for futures if they are making to playoffs though.

They'll probably want a pretty good goalie prospect I'd think, and a little cap space going back(if needed by the team acquiring sharp/but not absolute dead weight)

Sharp

For

Desharnais
Lindgren/Fucale
3rd round pick

Save 1.4 in cap space. Desharnais is also a pending UFA. Choice of goalie prospect and a pick.

Dallas doesn't want to dump him. He has been really good for us and was a 55 point winger last year. His numbers aren't there right now because he was part of the glut of broken forwards we had to start the year but he should still pick it up and produce at a similar pace.

If we are remotely close to a playoff spot there is no way he is moved. If we are out of it I would be shocked if he isn't moved. He would be one of the better UFA rentals available and I would imagine he's cost to be similar to Ladd last year. 1st+Dano was an overpayment, but I think a late first for a Sharp like player is probably pretty reasonable.

Same note we could use a decent Goalie prospect but neither of yours interest me all that much

Which UFA rental is a better scorer? We'll take a 1st plus Dano like the Jets got for Ladd.

That is a good offer but if im Dallas im doing everything i can to sign Bishop. He is elite,Fleury isnt

They can't sign Bishop unless they can trade probably both of their goalies. Who are they going to move Niemi and Lehtonen to? I honestly think Vegas gets Bishop because they definitely can offer him what he wants, I'm honestly not sure how many other teams can.

Sure we can.

Benn 9 Spezza 7.5 Seguin 5.75
Eakin 3.85 Roussel 2 Ritchie 2
Nichushkin 2 Faksa 2 Janmark 2
Shore .875 Dickinson .894
36.869 + 3 spots

Klingberg 4.25 Hamhuis 3.75
Benn 1.1 Honka .863
Johns .725
10.688+ 2 spots

Lehtonen 5.9
Niemi 2.25
8.15

If we trade Niemi at 50% that's 55.7m. Bishop at 9m is about 65m which gives us 9m on a 74m cap to fill the remaining 5 spots. Eaves is a good fit, maybe he's back for 1.5m and Oleksiak and Nemeth are RFAs that shouldn't be pushing past 1.5m AAV each.

Yes they can? Niemi and Lehtonen only has one year left after this season. They have plenty of cap space longterm. Wouldnt be a problem at all

But the issue is with affording him next year, not affording him long term

I won't pretend to know much about the Stars roster, but that forward group and defense beyond the 1st pair and 1st line look weak. Roussel as your 2nd line center? I like him and think he's a really good 3rd liner, but I don't think he's good enough to be a 2C. I think Eakin, Nuke, Janmark and Ritchie is a solid middle six wing group, but I don't think Roussel-Faska as a 2C-3C combo is nearly good enough. Same with the defense, it would probably be a lot to ask Benn and Honka to be the 2nd pair on a contender.

Just a list of players by cap hit, not by position. The proof of concept is this year, we are on the playoff bubble with these defensemen and almost nothing from Spezza and Sharp. Add 5-6% to our team SV%, replace Sharp with Nichushkin and healthy Janmark, young players gain experience and one other modestly priced UFA signing and we are looking back at the bubble.

If we're in a position to move UFA'S, I'd rather be selling for picks, specs etc.

Fluery isn't much of an upgrade anyways, yes he's better then our 2, but not enough to make a difference

Sharps productivity is in massive decline, especially his forte, goal scoring, as last year was his lowest full season goal total since his first full season (min 70 games) in the NHL

His 55 pt season last year is extremely misleading as he was playing on a line with two art ross contenders in Benn and Seguin for a large chunk of the season, carrying his production for him

He wont have that luxury literally anywhere else in the league.

His shot doesnt find the back of the net like it used to and his speed is in decline

Thats not by position, its by cap hit. Spezza isnt our 1C. Seguin isnt our 1RW. You can tell by the first line alone that its not our line up. Our C's down the middle are Seguin-Spezza-Faksa. Which is a very strong middle
