Patrick Roy destroys Anthony Duclair after Islanders’ loss: ‘He was god-awful’

Duclair was at his best in Florida when it was the run and gun and his speed created a lot of odd mismatches.
His one year with Maurice it was clear he didn't fit in, and was dressed simply cause the talent before #12 dropped off a lot. Colin White was a regular...

Tortorella on Duclair a few years ago.

Tortorella on Duclair: "I wish I could use him at the end of the game, when we’re trying to get a goal, but I’m not so sure about him away from the puck. I don’t want to be down 3-1 when we’re trying to get back on a 2-1 score."

Wow I didn't know he had a 4 year contract. That's nuts. Lamorello is a joke of a GM...You could see the last couple years he was basically a replacement level guy. Grandpapa needs to go retire and enjoy life on the country side for the fishdicks' sake.

That said, I still don't think it's a good look to call out a player like that.

Roy is right, Duclair sucks and I'm glad the Rangers moved on from him when they did.

However, I think Roy is trying to Torts his way out of a job with these comments:laugh:

Good call actually, I could see it.

Duclair went from being a 54 point player (181 in 276 over the past 5 years to a 20 point player overnight?

He had 42 in 73 just last year. He’s no superstar but for him to go from a solid 2nd liner to a 4th liner all of sudden at the age of 29 is weird

I don’t know how much this is duclair sucking vs Roy and the islanders just being bad/not a fit for him but they have him for a couple of years, so they should figure something out.

It's more about his groin injury being bad enough he shouldn't have bothered coming back this year than it is bad fit/just bad.

I would think there was a little bit of pride in coming back as well as a nudge from the front-office about the playoff push.

I don't think you'll find many Isles fans in his FA thread saying they expected anything more than speed on the wing. With the groin injury there's no chance of that at all.

Just a little context, Duclair has been battling a groin injury and for a player predicated on speed, that’s a tough injury to battle through.

With that said, Roy and Duclair have a rapport from Jrs. It’s okay he called him out bc frankly Duclair has been soft on the puck. I’m certain they’ve had internal meetings.

I give Duclair a pass with the injury this season.

Was thinking the same- some team like the Canes will immediately resurrect him though.

Honestly Duclair is not that bad a player although I haven’t watched him play this season. In Ottawa a few yesrs back he was one of the best forwards consistently. Yes, that Ottawa team was bad but he was actually good on a nightly basis. Using his speed, shot and playing with tenacity and intensity.

Definitely something going on there that he has 11 points on the season because his offensive skillset is good enough to be a 40 point player without any issues.

I’m guessing a change of scenery trade might happen here at some point.

I understand the contract Duclair got; he put up stellar numbers in that brief run with Tampa Bay. Everyone probably thought he had fully recovered from his injury and taken the next step...and maybe both things were not true.
