Injury Report: Patrick Kane - UPDATED 4/13/15: Medically cleared!!!

I told myself when I woke up I was gonna be positive today, then the first thing I saw on twitter was this...

Ummm... sample size and all that but... ugh.

That is a ******** graphic. Last year we didn't have Kane for 13 games. Those games we also didn't have Toews. So yes, we are a bad team without Kane and Toews. We haven't seen this team ever play without Kane but with Toews. The 13 games they are basing that graphic on were the last games of the season without our two stars and the last 2-3 were the Rockford IceHogs vs the NHL.

There is absolutely 0 significance to that.

Toews only missed 6 of those games. Then there's the 9 games Kane missed in 10-11, and the 2 from 08-09.

Kane is one of the best finishers in the league, but he's actually 12th on the team in scoring chances created per 60 minutes this season.

Scoring chances is an awful metric to use. It's very objective from building to building, night to night.

Do they count it as a scoring chance when one scores?

I'd assume so, but if say a team accidentally passes it back into an empty net that's not really a scoring chance. I don't know.

This makes me love Kane even more. Great to have a player of his caliber on the team for a long time.

Since we need to get under the cap, we may as well be a seller and get the most out of Bickell and Sharp or whomever else we planned on moving anyway.

the Hawks are not going to be sellers. What a stupid mentality.

Well...I hope to hell we don't go blowing prospect depth and picks on filling a hole for one post season.

Edit: This is a joke, by the way.

In an ideal world, Stan could pull off something like the Leddy trade. Where he dumped Barker's contract (in anticipation of caphell that coming summer) and picked up a nice future player.

But he also got a player who could have helped (more than Barker) that year. Unfortunately, injuries screwed that up.

If you can shed salary for next year and get a better player than the player being traded for this year, I am all for it.

Trading players who can help win now for futures isn't an option.

Anyone else get a feeling every now and then this is just a bad dream. Maybe this is sad that it only took this long, but this morning I woke up and it took like a full hour before I remembered what was going on. Given how often I normally think about it, that hour was pretty peaceful.

This sucks.

Well probably a bad comparison, but the Bulls were one bad call away from making the finals in 1994 without Jordan.

They lost in the 2nd round in 1994.

As for the argument at hand, no team has won a championship without there best player? 1990 NY Giants? And besides Kane IS NOT the best player on the Hawks.

Tank for McEichel!!! wooo...i would love the jealousy that would entail if the hawks missed the playoffs and fluked into getting a top 3 pick

Ha, sample size is right.

How many of those games were BOTH Kane and Toews out for?

I wouldn't be shocked if the PP numbers hold up though. The PP runs through Kane, and unless they change the system to account for his loss, it's going to lose efficacy. But changing the system entirely might be the best thing to ever happen to the Hawks PP.

This team has lost key members and persevered. They will again. Kane's absence is pretty much a non-issue until the playoffs start. The Hawks are locked into the 3rd seed pretty much, and just need to focus on improving the process, improving their shot suppression, and getting as many shots on net as possible to try and work through their absurdly low shooting percentage (26th in the league at least check).

Once the playoffs start, then we can start wringing our hands about what will happen without Kane.

3rd seed in division is all but guaranteed but will they be 4th in the conference or jump ahead of ahaheim? Likely wont matter in the longrun anyway.
