Bergeron is UFA next summer. Boston is likely to miss next years playoffs, and even if they make it, there's very slim chance for a cup anymore with this core.

There were some "rumors" about him signing in Montreal, but I think those are simply not true.

A contending team with need for an elite 2C. 1 year deal on Avs when they dont resign Kadri? Kind of bridges into Newhook being able to 2C in the future aswell.

I think he's publicly stated it's Boston or nowhere. You never know and things can change, but even Montreal (that would love to have a hometown boy come home, has links to him since our GM is his former agent, and has needs at C) doesn't have a buzz that he might sign anywhere but Boston.

Yeah that seems realistic. If they're gonna leave their long term teams taking a discount to play for the second worst team in hockey.... Makes a ton of logical sense. Just more terrific content! Keep it coming.

Maybe as a faceoff specialist/4th line centre to the Canes?
Yea, RBA would love to have the guy. It would be in a role a lot larger than 4th line Center though. Centering the 1st line of Aho and Jarvis or something like that.

Aho-Berg-Jarvis
Svech-Kotkaniemi-Turbo
Necas-Staal-Fast
Martinook-Drury-Lorentz /Noesen

Would be a pretty stout squad. It is unlikely though. Bergeron is going to deservedly get paid a lot more than the Canes are likely to have space for.

If you observed this posters content for as long as I have it was a well deserved response...

Bergeron retires a Bruin...Whether it's this year or later.

I can't imagine Bergeron doing anything other than retiring as a Bruin.

Pretty much this although Boston with a 37 year old Bergeron as their #1 center and Charlie Coyle as their #2 doesn't inspire playoffs for me.

The gap was just so big someone would have to take a big step to supplant them. Ottawa or Buffalo are the most likely candidate and they both have some big holes. But they have alot of young talent, if they collectively take a big step maybe they do but I wont hold my breath. Thats probably why people are skeptical. I feel like Boston would be an attractive location for a UFA if the 1C is open. I am sure one of Malkin, Giroux or Strome would go. None of them except Malkin are at the same level but the ream might not take a big enough step back.

I hope he wins the Selke and retires, going out as a legend and a Bruin.

If he really wanted to play the mercenary, maybe he goes to Colorado to ride shotgun as #2C. I don't see it, though.

Guessing he stays with the Bruins. 2 years at 5 - 5.5 per. He can jump to 3rd all time in points and goals in Bruins history next season, and maybe even in assists. A 2 year deal almost guarantees he becomes 3rd all time in all 3 of those lists. As much as I dislike the Bruins I cannot picture Bergeron playing for another team, and I'm jealous he's been so good for so long.

The disrespect.
Are you crazy?
For me Bergeron has been the most valuable player in the last decade and a half in the entire league.
And he is one of the few players who always displays sportsmanship on the bruins.
Not dirty although he‘s playing a defensive role.

Plus, he has already been surrounded by a bunch of jerks his whole career.
For me it‘s a great fit.
Still, he will be a lifetime bruin.

he only signs with another team if the Bruins suddenly decide they don't want him back (and i don't see that happening)
