Roster Moves: (Part II) Gostisbehere, 2022 2nd, 2022 7th to AZ, cap relief in return

What you dont do in any business when you have an asset is... talk shit about the asset in public, tell everyone you dont want the asset, and then beg them to take it from you. And then give someone extra value to get rid of it without asking "hey, actually why am I getting rid of this for negative value... the bank are not going to default us, the world wont end...".

What kills me is the fact that this specific line of events applies to multiple Flyers GMs (and several players as recently as FEB) now. This is not a "fire and replace" issue. This is a "dumpster fire culture and we dont give a F about it" issue.
This alone is why the Flyers are not about to get fixed anytime soon.

Yep. Add a loud mouth coach who can’t wait to publicly throw players under the bus-Frost, Farabee, Couturier, York, Ersson and others, in order to cover for his ineptitude.

The Flyers immediately signed Keith Yandle as Ghost’s replacement. That’s how they viewed Ghost. Then when Yandle was a dud, they signed DeAngelo because — unlike Ghost as a top 4 defenseman — Fletcher thought DeAngelo would play on the top pair. An actual quote.

Then they thought York would be their dynamic young offensive defenseman. Then it became Drysdale. So confident as to pass on the dwarfish Buium. While spending capital on Bonk and Gill. After wanting to trade Sanheim — the only defenseman before/after Ghost capable of 50 points (if they ever gave him PP time).

The Flyers are to skilled d-men as the NY Jets are to QBs.

The Flyers value defenseman like Risto over defenseman like Ghost. The Flyers time and time again fail at letting a player play to his strengths and just find a guy who complements him well on the other side of the puck. Instead they try to turn players into what they are not. Square peg into round hole.
They do these backward ass things all the time. They act like they are the smartest people in the room when they are the dumbest.

I will die on the hill made of corpses on this: dman drafting and development is the Flyers bane, not goaltending. They're actually infinitely better at goalies.

Was it Jimmy Watson - 50 years ago - who was the last dman the Flyers drafted who made multiple All-Star games for Philadelphia?

Should be. Unless I'm forgetting someone, the last even one time Flyers All Star D drafted by the team was Behn Wilson in '80-81. I think he's also the last guy they drafted to make one with any team?

But if I'm remembering this one right, there was no ASG in the post-lockout year when Pitkanen had his breakout. What I definitely don't remember is whether that was a 2nd Half thing and he wouldn't have made it anyway.

And Striker will answer!

I believe you're right. Wilson played in the 1981 All-Star game, a year after legendary Flyers DMan Norm Barnes played in the 1980 All-Star game. Barnes had really just that one year and made the All-Star game primarily because of his penchant for throwing his body sprawling across the ice to break up passes by the opposing team. Seriously, that's pretty much all he did.
