I’m sure Panarin and Karlsson will be at the top of their want list. I also believe that they might resolve the goalie situation before the off season so they won’t target a big named goalie.

I wouldn't touch Karlsson, you're betting a lot of money on a one dimensional player with a bad ankle.
At least Panarin has no health issues on a long-term deal. But if you sign him, you have to move out a contract (Voracek or JVR).

I also feel like the flyers could make a big deal with Edmonton. They have talbot who seemingly has lost his starter job. They also are a team like us in the middle of mediocrity.

We match up with a few teams for some trade action. I’m just really really nervous about what is going to get done here

You don’t though. Patrick, Sanheim and Konency aren’t going to cost you the house. Provorov is the main piece and he will be around the 7 million mark I believe. There is room to add one large contract and not move one out.

I don't think Voracek finishes the season in Philly. If they want to make a shake up move, that'll be a an all timer

i agree. making a decision quickly is always better than making the correct decision.

Uh.. absolutely not.

Making a poor decision rather than the well thought out one is often very costly.

Unless you're joking and I'm missing the sarcasm.

Fletcher imo does not have any redeeming qualities to hang his hat on.

Talent is acculmulated in 3 ways. Free Agency signings, Trades and Drafts.

Let's take a look at Free Agency. Not only did he sign suter and Parise to terrible per year earning and term contracts, but he picked two guys who have limited ability to improve a team. Suter and Parise while good players should not be a teams best players or highest paid players. He ssigned Koivu to close to a 7 million dollar cap hit in 2011. That is close to 11 percent of the cap. Since signing that contract he has not scored 20 goals.

Let's look at Trades. Pominville, Hanzel, chris stewart, matt moulson, daroll powe, all terrible trades. The Brett Burns trade was incredibly stupid, considering had they kept him they wouldn't have to sign Suter to that crazy deal. The only one i can consider a good one is the cal clutterbuck deal , but then again look at what GM he was working with there. and the dubynk one where again he was dealing with a terrible organization and they got lucky

Now look at draft picks. He consistently drafts terrible players, or guys with little to no upside. First round picks do hit but rarely does anything outside the first. He is a terrible GM. One of the worst actually.

Amen. So glad all the impatient kids drove Hextall out of town just so we could get this clown.

I'd love to have the Breadman on this team. We have some cap space freeing up with the expected departure of Simmonds and Lehtera dropping off. Then again, we have to re-sign TK and Provorov and the reports of him wanting 10-11m are a little absurd. I'd hate to be the team to give that to him, he is probably worth 8-9.

I think they will look at moving him too. Not exactly sure what for but they could be looking at moving him and simmer and signing Panarin and bringing up some kids next year. It’s a given they are going after Panarin or maybe EK with the talk at the press conferences.

Guys who make some poor signings are still viewed as good GMs if the team keeps winning on the bakc of the other talent they acquired.

Look at the Winnipeg GM's 2017 offseason - Mason 2 x $4.1m, Kulikov 3 x $4.33m.

Mase was bought out this summer, and Kulikov might have to be bought out next summer.

With what these RFAs like Rantanen and UFA like marner and Mathews are going to make, the price will be very high.

The key for someone like Fletcher is whether he learned from his last job:

"I did what they wanted and they still fired me, so this time I'm gonna give lip service but do what I think is best for the team's long-term prospects. They won't fire me for a year or two, and if the team goes deep in the playoffs in 2020-21 I've got long-term security."

Or he is just Holmgren's lackey and makes a bunch of bad trades to look like he's doing something.
Which is what got him fired in Minnesota, because you have to be awfully lucky for that strategy to work.

Add Trouba situation too, if they don’t win this year, his value will be at its lowest. Wheeler deal could-bite them too, trade for Statsny didn’t work out.

While Fletcher did do the big Suter and Parise signings, he isn't afraid to keep young players up and he can be pretty good about prices as well. Eric Staal signing was crazy in terms of value, especially since he put up 42 last season.

Honestly, we could be doing way worse than Fletcher.
