The girl was admitted in a serious condition to Istituto Giannina Gaslini, a children's hospital in Genoa, Italy. She was kept in intensive care for several days, but is now showing signs of recovery.

The child’s parents are also vegan and strictly controlled her diet, La Repubblica reported. In addition to being raised on a strict vegan diet, the girl was also breastfed by her mother while she was on the same diet, resulting in less nutritious breast milk.

Interesting, I have a cousin who's now vegan. To me you got to have an assortment of meals in your daily diet. Everything in moderation is what I always say.

Not giving the child a choice, sounds exactly like what a stupid vegan parent would do. I bet these idiot vegan parents also bragged to literally everyone on the planet how vegan their child was.

That's unfortunate.

I hope she's removed from that toxic situation and placed in a home with parents who will take proper care of her.

These parents are idiots for forcing a lifetsyle of bland food and malnutrition on their kids.

Like those animals who get a choice right?

It's more likely a vegan child would slaughter a kitten or bunny to eat it just to see how it tastes. This would gradually turn into an obsession of murdering animals which you are so against.

These parents are raising a future serial killer.

Very unfortunate that these parents weren't educated enough on the nutrition side of veganism unlike the majority of parents that know that with well-balanced and planned vegan diets (with some kind of easy supplementation of B12) people of all ages can get all the needed nutrients to live healthy lives.

But luckily the majority of the kids who are raised by vegan parents are given the needed information about veganism early on after their parents explain why they have chosen to follow this ideology and want to support practices that are less unethical, for the benefit of the animals, the people and the environment they live in. Doing this while providing them with healthy and enjoyable food in their homes and then letting the children make their own choices about animal products that are provided by the rest of society as they grow up.

Tldr. Shut up Juzmo. Quit trying to bring logic into vegan threads.

Perhaps the stupidest thing I have ever read.

I know many vegan kids who are perfectly healthy. The national boards of dieticians in both Canada and America have said that people of all ages and walks of life can thrive on a vegan diet.

Why don't we ban all you British clowns? Y'all should vote to exit HFBoards too. Or maybe we can vote to kick you out?

No, you really don't. I have been a vegetarian my whole life (i.e. haven't had meat/seafood even once in my life), and I think I've turned out okay.

Sadly--many parents assume that because a diet works for them as adults that it will work for their new born--we had this thread before and I posted a few links

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2010/apr/20/veganism-safe-children

here in the UK there have been seeral studies done and it is suggested that children under 10 should not be put on vegan diets completely

From what I've read/heard on the topic, taking B12 as a supplement is often suggested for anyone on a vegan diet.

There's also a condition that can develop in some people - forget it's name now - but it basically means that person cannot remain on a vegan diet, due to a missing enzyme. This is a bit more serious, hence why they recommend that a child be followed by a doctor familiar with the issues.

The bigger issue may simply be that we just don't have all the information available readily. Searching the internet isn't really the way to do it, and "food specialists" often seem to have their own mantra vs relying on scientific data. I find it appalling that they would punish these parents instead of making sure they did get the information they needed.
