Oh so an admission that all the expert goalie talk in GDTs isnt really about their performance on whatever night, or the quality of chances they let in.

Just a veiled attempt to bitch and moan about what the GM should do.

Well atleast we’re finally being honest.

Skinner has also been the worse goalie of the two this year, so there's that. Pickard has had maybe 2 bad games this year.

Again. Zero analysis or care about what actually happens in games and how goals happen. Thank you for continuing to prove the point .

Doesn't this boil down to Connor Browns contract costing us contract space. Wasn't the amount deferred? I find that a lot of takes on this which ever side of the deal one is on are creative. In fairness its an unorthodox contract. Bottom line for me is I didn't want the player here at all. He's been significantly better than last season, I'll cede that.
It’s almost like he was still recovering from his injury last season. Something you refused to admit.

Puh-lease. I've watched almost every single NHL game Stuart Skinner has played.

He is what he is, a mediocre/maybe average goalie in the tier of a David Riitich or Mikko Koskinen.

More comments that have nothing to do with the game. Just repeating the same ol shit as if you are making a point.

Stu Skinners is average?!? What a revelation!!! I look forward to 20000 more posts stating what everyone already knows.

Holy f*** what cringe session.

How do you feel about being scratched?

How do you really really feel about being scratched?

Did Kris tell you why you were scratched?

Do you know why you are scratched?

Did you anticipate being scratched?

Back when you signed the contract did you think you were going to be scratched?

Do you have experience being previously scratched?

What lessons have you learned in the past by being scratched?

Is it not goal scoring the reason you are scratched?

What have you learned about being scratched?

What will you learn being scratched?

And one more to clarify, did you enjoy being scratched?
I'm fine with it for the one reason that this was always a player that had trouble taking accountability. A player that was always prepared to laugh off his team struggles instead of being a leader to make a team better. Its been clear now, and was in Buffalo that this is a guy that clowns around and has difficulty taking things seriously. In an org he's a guy just there taking a pay cheque and looking forward to days off. That this guy is basically uncoachable isn't even up for debate at this point.

Hard questions should be asked, and they were imminent, and predictable, and only J Skinner could have avoided this but isn't motivated to do so. J Skinner doesn't even possess the drive to give everything on a winning team. He's a guy thats around for the easy goals. Pretty much all he's ever been.

Mark Messier would be slamming this guy up against a wall threatening him to bring it. We know he would. Could you imagine what McD or Drai or others feel about the relative drive of a Jeff Skinner?

How do you think a contending team feels about J Skinner laughing on the bench in the LA game. That was right out of WTF territory. No doubt the bench and coaching staff noticed that too. but this is who J Skinner is. "I'm getting paid, I don't care". Theres nothing he's done that dispels that notion.

Skinner in the interview is basically being confronted with himself, who he is, and he laughs it off. Nobody in the org are laughing about it at this point.

Actually I would say he is below average. Average is him during a good stretch.

Below average players take shit on teams that have high expectations, is what it is and it will always be that way. If they don't like it they can stick with Mommy, this is pro sports.

Currently performing below average. His performed above average for 2 years though. But anyways again, all comments unrelated to the actual quality of goals let in.

Lol, Nuge is the first forward that should be slapped. He has 1 whopping more point at 5 on 5 than Jeff Skinner despite being stapled to the best player in the world.

Skinner was sold a phony bill of goods here by being promised he'd get top 6 minutes to utilize his shot. He never sold himself as a bottom 6 player, the coach is being a moron playing him there.

The Oilers don't run themselves like a Cup winning organization simple as that, this is yet another display of stupid roster management on their part (sign a player to do one thing and then give them 0 chance to do it).

Florida took in players like Reinhart, OEL, Montour who have holes in their game but integrated them into their lineup well. From a team perspective (front office, coaching) they deserve the Cup. We just make 50 mistakes and try to press the McDavid button in hopes that it glosses over those problems.

Ridiculous. RNH is the established player longstanding in the lineup. He has the faith and trust of team and coach. Skinner is the reclamation project coming here needing to be making an impression on his last chance NHL club because everybody knows he's a clown. There isn't any contender team that should want anything to do with what Jeff Skinner brings. A point so freaking obvious I don't know how Jeff Jackson missed it. years ago there were plenty blooper videos of Skinner skating around aimlessly controller disconnected as his own Goal light going off. He was considered the league slacker pulling in big coin. A guy cool in a bar and nowhere else. Until lil Petey came along J Skinner was the most mocked high paid player in the league.

J Skinner was exhibit A in NHL for high paid player that just doesn't give a shit ever. Money very badly spent.

Nobody is promised topsix minutes. Its not how it works, or how it ever works. In pro sports you earn your position. Always the way it is. But coach Soundwave here has other ideas.

LA will DESTROY us this year. Just a better team top to bottom. Literally the only thing we have better is McDrai. Our only hope of beating them is McDrai scoring almost 2 PPG in the series

Which version of the team are we coaching? The team from 2 years ago when RNH was producing or the team that's here and now?

As I said Florida deserves that Cup, they took a chance on players like Reinhart, Bennet (minus player every year of his career in Calgary with low production), OEL, Montour and made something of them.

Here, the team goes out and signs a player under a phony bill of goods and then doesn't ever give him a chance to play in the position he might be able to succeed at.

Jeff Skinner didn't lie to the Oilers, pretty sure if they asked him on July 1 if he'd be effective playing on the 4th line, Skinner would tell them "nah, that isn't going to work".

This is the Oilers fault. Plain and simple, they run themselves constantly like a 2nd rate organization, not surprising they haven't been able to win a Cup even when gift wrapped the best player in 30 years.

RNH being stapled to McDavid and producing nothing while letting UFA signings rot on the vine and giving them no chance to build any confidence playing with McDavid is exhibit 284747 on things well run organizations don't do.

I agree that Nuge has earned more rope than J Skinner but both players have been terrible and only one has seen any actual consequences to date. This isn’t exactly a small sample size either at this point.

At even strength RNH is producing the same as Podkolzin and Janmark. That can’t continue and I think they should look at moving him around the lineup and not just in a default line when they load McDrai.

Arvidsson looked interesting on the top line. I’d also like to see Henrique get a look in a scoring role. Even someone like Kapanen.

I don't agree you can throw players like OEL. Montour Reihnart. Bennet who have always had competitive drive with Jeff Skinner. Not the same. Its ridiculous that JJ landed on Jeff Skinner and injured Arvid. Like why land on those two as targets. They are two players their team no longer wanted at all.

Its the Oilers fault in signing J Skinner period. I have no idea why any contending club would pull this joker. He's no ace. I wonder if he's even here by playoffs.

If anything it should be opposite treatment. New players should be given a bit more rope, they are NEW, they are adjusting to 50 new things, they are adjusting to a different situation.

If you've been here for years and are stinking it up, that's more of a shame on you type of thing.

A smart organization would be cognizant that new players need to be nurtured a bit more and brought along with maybe a little more time with say McDavid to get them feeling good.

RNH shouldn't need his f***ing hand held by McDavid after playing a decade here. You've had plenty of time with McDavid give someone else a goddamn chance.

Sam Reinhart was a miserable -28 in his last 54 games before bottoming out in Buffalo, worse than Skinner was there.

Everyone wants to lick boots when the turnaround happens, Florida took a chance when it didn't look good and when it wasn't sexy/glamourous to have this player and turned him into a key part of a Cup winning team.

That's called doing WORK, something this franchise's front office and coaching are deficient at. They simply are not as smart as other organizations.

Skinner would be handled differently if he signed in Florida and would likely have better production over there.

Florida deserves that 2024 Cup, they run themselves like a legit top franchise and put in the hard work and common sense in team building, this club (front office wise, intelligence in handled players wise) didn't. McDavid deserved it, but not the franchise.

I don’t fully agree. RNH has been a fairly reliable scorer and is responsible defensively. He deserves to work through small stretches where he’s struggling. However I think we are well passed that point now and would like to see some adjustments made and some other players get an opportunity.

Incomplete look. RNH is a consummate 200ft player that plays roles on PP, pk, and EV and is always a plus player with a lower GA rate.

Skinner is a one act pony that doesn't play any special teams well, has been awful here even on 2nd unit PP, is awful at EV and is -11 with much higher than expected GA relative to his toi and his usage. For Skinner to be -11 here is just continuation of the theme of him being a one zone player. If he doesn't like that rep he's well earned it.

Any comparison between RNH and Skinner here, sorry, is odd.

In terms of "actual consequences" what do you mean? Would you actually scratch RNH who is such a good part of the teams play and on special units?

If your attitude as an organization in a CAP world is "f*** you, you're on your own" to players you spend money on in UFA ... good luck winning a Cup.

It's already hard enough without you shooting yourself in the foot.

In a cap world, nurturing new players into your system and get them acclimated and producing is a big part of the game, not just some "bonus thing maybe some weird teams do" that the Oilers think it is.

Its not the reality of show me pro sports. Particularly for a reclamation project like J Skinner who chose to be awful during TC and on the basis of play being a player you'd cut, except you're paying him 3M. Multiple players sent down were better than J Skinner who is just here.

Adjust to what? He's a longtime pro player, a longterm vet, that brought none of what would even minimally be expected of a vet.

As far as Mcdavid hand holding RNH you've tried to say the same about Draisaitl. So that it just comes off as something you'd say. You say that everybody is McD dependent. As many times as @Fourier has corrected you on it.

What I'll never get is how a pro org couldn't fathom what Jeff Skinner is. Thats unfortunately the worst thing. Any deeper look at what Skinner brought to a room, i.e. nothing, should have cancelled any thoughts on obtaining him. But its typical of those like JJ that they figured they'd be smarter than the world and we'll have this 30 goal scorer here for 3M.

I mean holy c'moly... you guys are missing the forest for the trees. Comparing Skinner to RNH is just... wow!

The obvious, and I mean OBVIOUS point is that coaches don't judge players based solely on their counting numbers. There are two ends of the ice, and when RNH isn't producing on offense, he's still contributing defensively.

I honestly don't know what games you are watching, but I've witnessed RNH save at least half-dozen sure goals against in the last 10 games alone. At least a few of those preserved wins.

McDavid holding his hand? Jeezus... RNH is playing third guy high on every shift in the Ozone so that McDavid can deliver us virtuoso offensive performances... do you even notice? He's not on McDavid's line to drive the net and tap in one-timer's like Hyman... he's on that line to play the defensive/traditional high forward role so that McDavid can be McDavid and Hyman can be Hyman.

I swear sometimes Soundwave... wow!

No I would do something that *normal* team like a Florida would do which is give Skinner some time with McDavid and move RNH down with Draisaitl. When the f*** did RNH get himself married to McDavid and can never be moved off that line now? That wasn't even the case in the past, RNH had spent time on Draisaitl's line as much as McDavid's.

This team cannot even bring themselves to do that, and what they want to cry about not having a Cup.

Do you really deserve one if that's how you operate?

This is shit is just basic common sense. You signed this guy to score in the top 6, so play him in the f***ing top 6. At least a few games. Why does this franchise have to make a clown show out of every second thing they do?

There's never a break from the non-stop stupid here. You would think maybe getting close to a Cup would be a sobering moment for the org ... but nope.

Zero talk about Pickards two shit goals last night?

And yet when Skinner let’s in zero shit goals, non stop talk?

I’d say Pickards 2 goals last night were probably worse goals than anything Skinners has let in, in 2 weeks
Hope the moms trip was fun. Anything to deflect from Moustache's play, hey?

RNH has the worst 5 on 5 points/60 on the team for forwards basically.

He should be f***ing ashamed of himself, Derek Ryan would probably have better 5 on 5 production with McDavid if given the same opportunity.

There's 82 games in a regular season right? RNH isn't going to die if Skinner were to be given 5/30 games even at the start of a year to be tried with McDavid.

If you can't even do that, then get the f*** out of the way and just let some serious teams play for the Cup, that's just an embarrassingly myopic way to run a team if you can't even make the tiniest adjustment to accomodate a new player who's desperate to have something good happen so they can feel like they're part of the team.

Whats there to distract from at the moment exactly? .920 in his last 11 starts?

But no, my post isn’t about it distraction. I’m not trying to distract from the fact that Skinner has been below average this year. Just pointing out how dumb the hypocrisy is when it comes to judging good goals against or bad goals against.
