The 'good news; is that at least Dolegala has some CFL experience as a starter in Regina. The 'bad news' is that he was up-and-down like a yo-yo last season as the Riders collapsed down the stretch and missed the CFL playoffs.

It would appear that the Lions signed him as a free agent based on one monster game he played against them at B.C. Place a year ago and another decent game in a Lions-Riders rematch in Regina. But it's been the year of the 'back-up QB' in the CFL as one by one the starters have gone down with injury.

And the Lions are facing another backup QB in Tre Ford in Edmonton, who spent the first seven games on the bench behind McLeod Bethel-Thompson. But t this one smacks of an upset, as the lowly Elks went into Regina and handed the Riders their lunch in the last game, with Ford running all over the park.

Rourke cast adrift once again...let's go Lions...bring him home
Rourke cut from another NFL team.....not often a guy gets released from two different teams with NFL training camps barely underway. I have no idea why NFL teams simply see no future for this kid; or whether he's totally lost his confidence.

But with the Lions reduced to using their backup; they should be all over him. Pretty apparent now that he left the CFL far too early in his career.

I doubt we see any Kurt Warner type stories anymore in the NFL. Even the days of Doug Flutie are long gone.

If youre an undrafted QB you're basically running uphill while dragging a piano. If you're a 1st round pick and completely suck it won't matter because you'll always have a gig as a backup.

Roarke should come back to CFL and only go back to the NFL if a team is legit invested in him being QB2 ( aka given a decent contract like other QB2s in the CFL)

Defense stinks. Can't tackle and don't force turnovers

Edmonton doesn't have a single incompletion yet this game. Just embasssing stuff from this defense.

I gotta admit, playing a 1-7 team and they make offence seem impossible and on the other side the defence makes getting a second down stop impossible. Then they finally do it and rough the kicker lmao

Elks getting away with a lot of offensive holding.
Yeah pretty much always infront of the ref too lol

You got a glimpse tonight of what this Lions team would be like with even average quarterbacking. Dolegala is now 2-8 as a starter and looked every bit the CFL journeyman.

But this Lions team just isn't very good on both sides of the ball right now. And although they're hosting the 2024 Grey Cup game at B.C. Place, it would take a minor miracle for this team to anywhere close to that game. Right now, I'd pick the Elks and the Stamps over this reeling Lions squad.

Is Adams the top qb? I don’t watch cfl too much. NFL guy but, I saw they got shutout in a game. That’s crazy he’s the top ranked guy and got shutout of a cfl game
But Adams is inconsistent. He has 3 or 4 games where he's by far the best QB in the league and then he has one where he shits the bed. The game they were shut out and he was injured was one of his worst games.

VA is kinda ass, but the CFL QB sitch is super dire. The NFL used to discriminate hard against just about any QB that wasn't of their preferred specific mold. Now the NFL will rightly take anyone who can play, which also makes anyone with a shred of ability and a little confidence think they have a shot. They probably still don't, but the CFL no longer benefits from a large cadre of undersized QBs being shunned by the NFL out of hand based just on their body's counting stats saying f*** it and accepting the CFL as their fate.

At this point you also have a better shot (PJ Walker) for example of landing an NfL job after playing in the UFL vs the CFL.

Plus with the expanded PS squad you get paid $12.5K usd per week which is like $225k usd thus $300k CAD.

Feels like the cfl is in a tough spot recruiting QBs. And some nfl teams will carry 3 on their main roster plus another one on the PS. So a good 100 QBs will be with the nfl.

I'm nervous for the future of the CFL. It's the second best league in the world in its sport but that somehow may not be enough to survive.

Outside of QB which can get paid what like $500k cad which is $375k usd once you establish yourself, what does UFL pay in comparison to the CFL? Plus factor in the number of games. UFL is a 10 game regular season vs 18 for CFL so have to break it down to salary per game. So $50k usd for ufl is like $95k usd for a cfl season which is then like $125k cad.
CFL salary cal is $5.525 mill cad for 45 players. Not sure if QB starter is exempt from that but if it is that would be about $125k cad for the other 44 players. If QB starter is included then an established one would get like $500k leaving just over $5 mill for the other 44 players.

Also ufl season allows the player to still attend nfl training camp after their season is over. CFL season overlaps until us Thanksgiving. So there’s that as well.

CFL is going to need to get some type of tv deal with the US network or something if they are survive long term. Need to be at least competitive with the ufl.

LFG!

This is the right move for BC and Rourke. Let the guy build up his resume further until some team down south has no option but to give him a shot. Until then he’s ours and we have a great shot at turning this ship around.

Too bad for Rourke it didn't work out in the NFL, but IMO he left too early without a better CFL resume and tape. Plus, he didn't get lucky with injuries and went to a team with a young starter on a rookie deal when he needed to sign with a team with a veteran starter who could then afford to have a younger backup. Rarely do teams go youth at both QBs on the game day roster like chicago did with Fields/Bagent last season.
