I am beginning to think that by beating the Oilers twice in a row in the SCF, Florida also mentally broke some of their fans in a way that is unusual for even the Stanley Cup.
Absolutely none of the Florida fans acted this way after Vegas beat them for the Cup. Not a single one. I can't even recall a SCF that resulted in so much bitter salt from parts of a fan base.
It is just entertainment. If you think there is a big conspiracy, or it is garbage, or whatever, then you really need to just go watch something else and of course quit participating in a discussion board on the subject. Life is way too short.
What like one dude that keeps baiting you guys?I am beginning to think that by beating the Oilers twice in a row in the SCF, Florida also mentally broke some of their fans in a way that is unusual for even the Stanley Cup.

He’s a Vegas fan; he hasn’t been baited. And there isn’t just one. What like one dude that keeps baiting you guys?
Fair.Okay, glad we accepted that because every league is terrible it’s okay if the NHL is too. Only more so.
I know he’s a troll… he’s just a damn good one…Here’s a hint, stop getting baited by it.
Bennett told me to “do it”…Well, let’s do the math. Let’s believe the Panther fans and say that there’s 1,000,000 Panther fans, and 10%(100000) have watched the parade. According to you, Of that 100,000, 1% would be 1000 people who have the disorder and might take Bennett’s statement the wrong way. That is a LOT of people who can do a lot of harm, then say “well Bennett told me to”.
Well, they've kept this thread going for a lot longer than it needed to! So first star troll job there.I know he’s a troll… he’s just a damn good one…
With fans like you representing them, I would see why. Most oilers fans have been cool outside of a select few.How are we the victims when every other fanbase came to your aid. The freaking Bolt fans supported you, because apparently you guys are the victims of vicious Oilers fan attacks. Seriously, every fanbase loved and adored you guys for two weeks(and longer than that counting the whole playoffs).
You guys are great at playing politics and swaying people for your causes. Seriously, expert level manipulation.
Respect and popularity are not mutually inclusive. Something can be well respected and not popular at all, same as something can be super popular but worthy of respect. No I don’t. I never said anything when the Bolts won, or Vegas. I want hockey to be respected. Is it respected if freaking college football being on a higher pecking order?.
Flames secretly wanted Florida to beat Edmontonb2b cups brought to you by the calgary flames
It must be because I'm a lot older than most posters on here. People really get wrapped up in a kids game and I have no idea why. People have been shot and killed over sporting events. It's lunacy.Well, they've kept this thread going for a lot longer than it needed to! So first star troll job there.
Back on-topic, Marchand's troll job was more on the GMs of other teams for trading away/not signing good players, not on the teams themselves. Which I think most fans even of those teams would find hilarious. On the players themselves, while I have no doubt that there is some real hatred there [pretty certain Tkachuck and Kane really do despise each other], most of it is professional and/or performative. Even just taking McDavid, Bennett and McDavid grew up together, and he was also friends with Ekblad at one point. My sense of professional athetes is that they're good at distinguishing between the real and the performative - you'd have to be.
On the fans, you should see the group chat messages between myself and my Toronto based cousins over the last few weeks. Lack of class doesn't begin to describe that cesspool, and let me tell you that I am not only a sore loser but an even worse winner... [It's been SO MUCH fun drinking in their tears.]
Then again, I grew up in soccer fandom where we have separate areas on the grounds for home/away fans as a matter of course, and police in riot gear to cordon off the two. And believe me that that is needed. From what I can see, you North American sports fans are MUCH classier than we Europeans could ever be...
As a Brit, I can speak more to football/soccer than hockey but for a lot of people, it's more than a game - it's about identity and community, and with that real tribalism. Most of us can treat it as a fun indulgance: as I mention, sports hatred is fun and largely performative - and the vast majority of us know that. But it can get occasionally get dangerous, particularly when people are drunk or just spoiling for a fight. It must be because I'm a lot older than most posters on here. I see the way they act in front of kids and we wonder why kids today have attitudes . Imagine a peewee hockey team acting like the Panthers, There should be something called common sense. As a Brit, I can speak more to football/soccer than hockey but for a lot of people, it's more than a game - it's about identity and community, and with that real tribalism. It doesn't happen so much now as the main offenders are tagged and the police are a lot better at keeping control and keeping the troublemakers out. But I remember going to some Millwall vs Charlton matches that were pretty ugly to the point where we left because of the atmosphere. From what I can see from North American sports though, it doesn't feel like you have that dangerous edge to your sports in the way that Europeans do with football - I mean, away fans seems to have no concern with sitting with home fans in a way that would be completely unheard of over here.
Maybe that's way I find the "outrage" here over over fan/player antics a little hilarious. If the worse behaviour you have is some "f*** McDavid" chants by drunk players/fans during a championship win, then that seems pretty harmless to me.
Secretly?Flames secretly wanted Florida to beat Edmonton
Oh, that's where you're coming from...I see the way they act in front of kids and we wonder why kids today have attitudes . Imagine a peewee hockey team acting like the Panthers, There should be something called common sense.
So we can’t criticize or say anything negative about the Panthers or we are the bad guysWith fans like you representing them, I would see why. Most oilers fans have been cool outside of a select few.
When people care more about Semi Pro college sports than Hockey, it says a lot about what the fans think of hockey down there. Most don’t know it exists, which is disrespectful considering the Panthers are back to back champs and have generated press in South Florida. Those people still don’t bother to show up or watch. It’s an “eh, who cares?” Vibe down there, and that stains the image of the NHL world wide. Imagine how crazy Edmonton or Toronto would be right now if they were back to back champs?Respect and popularity are not mutually inclusive. Something can be well respected and not popular at all, same as something can be super popular but worthy of respect.
NCAA sports are more popular in some places because they've been there far, far longer than the NHL has.
There's one obvious difference between the Panthers and the other fan bases the Oilers faced. Wanna guess? So we can’t criticize or say anything negative about the Panthers or we are the bad guys. You guys are supposed to be resilient, with all the six fan jokes flying around, but you guys decided to antagonize us instead of just accepting our constructive criticism and concerns to be better and improve. All my objections and arguments were always coming from a concerned, intrigued, and constructive way. No harm intended. You guys are allowed to defend yourself, but ruthlessly attacking Oiler fans for no reason?. That is harm intended. Wow no Bueno.
NO fanbase we faced these playoffs has come down harder on us than you guys, not even close. Is it a coincidence?.
This guy makes a couple of great points near the end of the video.
(Approx @ 2 minute mark)
we really don’t care if you don’t like our favorite team, or even us for that matter. The shambles they have left in their wake among opposition fanbases over the last two years has been something to behold.
Let’s Go Panthers!!!
That You guys beat us, but really those fans wouldn’t have acted like this had they won(apart maybe from Kings fans). Those guys have empathy, and they understand hockey culture and in general are very down to earth people. Their players wouldn’t break the social contract eitherThere's one obvious difference between the Panthers and the other fan bases the Oilers faced. Wanna guess?
