Did you read what he wrote? The 51st state comment was laughably silly and we know he’s just repeating what the President says. But the other comments, which I will not repeat, were truly vile. The NHL is a company and it can certainly censure owners and employees for saying things that damage their brand. The NBA had an owner say really vile things publicly and he was forced out.

Wait thats wild. Now i need to see what the tweets are.

I'm confused, how can he say Canada is the 51st state when he's talking about his support for the US's unofficial actual 51st state?

I dont disagree with you there. But personally I have no problem with it, because I'm pro free speech. What you say on social media should have no impact professionally. Because with where society is, its become obvious that its fine if you share a political opinion, so long as its the "correct" one

Free speech shouldn't mean freedom of consequence. I am absolutely fine with what you say online affecting your life if you say something silly (includes outrageously silly things people say or post that aren't politics). People should be held accountable for what they say regardless of medium.

Meh, the leafs fan started it. Dont see anything wrong with a proportionate reply. You dont get to bring up politics and pout when the other side does the same, but unfortunately only one side of the political spectrum seems to understand that.

I know, dont feed the trolls especially when youre a public figure. But theres nothing wrong with this
It doesn't matter if you agree with his stance or not. Commenting publicly on a loaded topic with the aggression of my 60 year old aunt after having too many cocktails is going to get you into some heat with a corporation that has a huge spectrum of consumers with differing views.

Im surprised it's difficult for some to understand. And spare me the pouting bit. Social media is full of people pouting into the matrix about something that bothers them. That goes for both sides of the politcal spectrum. This instance just doesn't align with your beliefs.

Where did I say I agree or disagree with him? I'm all for everyone having free speech. And when I say everyone, I mean everyone. Not simply just the "correct" side which is what your post seems to imply. Again, im not the one who's saying anything regarding my beliefs

Shocking, just truly shocking to see a guy accused of embezzling $400m from investors of his Virtu Financial fund (that jointly own the Panthers) going off on that kind of political rant online

FYI this is the link to the $400m fraud article, yours is linking to an article about an SEC investigation which I think is a whole other issue.

tldr, Viola, Cifu, and the inner-circle of Virtu own 40% of the operating company but control the board of the parent holding company and are effectively double dipping on their ownership (splitting the 60% that's owed to the public shareholders 40/60 a second time, resulting in the ultimate split being 64/36 rather than 40/60).

SURELY there has to be some limit

If you are so pro free speech, I suspect youve been actively opposed to the zionist lobby leading the largest coordinated rollback on free speech protection in decades, eh?

Also, there is no mainstream conception of free speech that prevents private companies from enforcing basic codes of conduct. Unlike journalists and protestors who are being arrested, deported,
killed, he is just being suspended from duties in a private organization.

"Free speech" means you can't be prosecuted. That's all free speech has ever meant in any society.

It doesn't mean you can literally say whatever you want with no consequences ever, especially in a society where private property exists (in this case, the NHL and the Panthers), and the people who own that property absolutely have the right to tell you what to say and not say when you're on or representing their property.

He should be smart enough to understand that distinction.

I think its one in the same. The SEC filing didn't have a dollar amount to it, which came out later in the article you're referencing.

Either way, seems like a swell guy.

He was entirely free to say what he said. And the league, which is a private enterprise, and the public at large, is free to hold him accountable for that.

Hold the phone! You mean an ownership group for an NHL team, based in South Florida, headed by a West Point thug who changed the team's cool logo to reflect his own flag- and jingoism-draped ego, and who was at one point considered to be a literal cabinet appointee for the current president's first administration, contains a guy who has awful politics and won't shut up about them? Am I reading this right? Because I can't believe it.

Don't f***ing sell teams to West Point alumni.

The American isnt the one who brought up political conflict
I think the hockey team owner has a little bit more power politically and otherwise than random Leaf fans on twitter. I thought Americans loved personal responsibility over blaming others.
This amounts to little more than grade school baby brains arguing "but he started it!" when retaliating and doing something very stupid.

Bless your hearts for trying to argue with that one specific bloke in here, guys. Been down that avenue before and it only brings pain.
Don't look at me, I'm just here to shit on the NHL's boner for West Point brownshirts.

All I saw the thing where he called the guy an anti-Semite loser. But I never use Twitter so maybe there’s more somewhere I’m not seeing

What a moron for getting baited like that.

But I’m afraid “Dr. Grizzo” is going to be getting more attention than they bargained for…

He basically got too political too quickly. Gonna have a sit down with the Bettman.

We can not get political here but the majority owner is good friends with a certain someone, so the minority owners opinions are not hard to figure out why
