Devils are 29-67 in the shootout over the last 13 seasons, a winning percentage of .302.

That is utterly bad, horrendous.

Toffoli was not a good fit on our top 6. He couldn’t keep up. You need to skate in this league. Thats why he isn’t on a top 6 on any team that wants to compete and why he is on SJ

Only thing that changed my mind this season, is seeing Noesen as slow as Toffoli was, but somehow isn't hurting the top 6. Granted Bratt/jack are a bit faster than Nico/Meier. But Noesen still surviving.

How many goals did he have on the Devils? talking about ridicules takes his leaving was more about term and salary then his skating bro
Salary and usage. If you can’t skate you gotta bring more than a bulk shooting presence. Look at Noesen as an example, he is just as slow but its rarely noticeable because he is never caught flat footed as he reads plays very well and also is a menace in front of the net. There is a reason he is a monster on the forecheck and not a liability in the D zone. He reads plays very well and gets great jumps on the play. I would like the Devils to stay away from slow moving bulk shooters who don’t provide much else.

You don’t have to be fast to not be caught flat footed all the time. It is a thing that is rarely discussed. See my reasoning above ^

The Jack-Toffoli pairing suffered HARD last year without Bratt (both Jack and Nico suffered significantly last year in their non Bratt minutes). With Bratt they were even on goals at 6-6 with a 61% xG. Without Bratt they were outscored 23-18 with a 52% xG.

Toffoli gets way too much shit for his time here. People act like he was awful. He was still a good top 6 guy even though the team was a mess and he wasn't a great stylistic fit with Lindy. I'm fully confident he'd be killing it on this version of the team where the pace in comparison is a complete slog and isn't a complete mess.

Definitely isn’t an awful player. I just never felt he was a good fit here. Him playing with Jack or Nico just never made much sense. Watching him for those amount of games he was constantly playing a step behind on many situations.

+/- aint perfect, but he was 5th worst on the team and thats with only playing the first 70% of the season, which was before the team really tailed off at the end of the season

You don't need to skate. Toffoli has literally never been able to skate and has been in the top 6 on good teams. We literally have Stefan Noesen in our top 6 playing very well. That guy can't f***ing skate. He's a worse skater than Toffoli. Getting rid of Toffoli was fine because the team sucked last year and also needed to play at an extreme pace. Toffoli would've been an ideal fit on this team though.
I suggest you go back and look at Toffoli’s history. Outside of the Canadian Division Canadiens he has not started on a team that went in to make the playoffs since his LA days, when he wasn’t in their top-6. He bounced around from team to team as a mid-season acquisition. Winnipeg didn’t want to keep him either.

He got stapled to Jack last year and was soft and did not give the board work presence that Palat is giving this year. And mid-year last year when they needed him to step up with injuries to the team Toffoli disappeared.

He definitely went Jack Parkman mode when it became clear that the Devils weren't making the playoffs and he wasn't staying, but I do think he could've fit into a top 6 role somewhere with a playoff team if he wanted to take less money, but he (understandably) wasn't interested in that.

That’s fair

Devils were 3-4 in shootouts in 2022-23 and 0-3 since, Cotter's likely going to be decent at them, they don't even know if anyone else is good in them because they don't have the reps. I don't think Jack or Nico are good, but I don't know who else I would send out there.

Tatar is 31% on 41 attempts

Probably our best “other” option tonight

I’m not sure you can take all that much from anything involving last season. Injuries and goaltending and lack of adjustments by coaches doomed them and at some point they knew it was a lost season and limped to the finish.

They play the Leafs next who are on a 3 game losing streak. Just feels like a scheduled loss given how they have ended losing streaks against us recently, even more so with how bad they have been on the road recently.
