The one thing that confused me from Ottawa was "why this year". They weren't bad last year and probably had a good playoff shot this year. I think this answers it. Like everyone knew Tkachuk was going to Matthew them "I'll play out my contract but will not extend under any circumstance." But I thought they should take at least one more try. But if he's doing this, I get it. But Jones was doing the same in Chicago and it worked out, I think this will too.

You think paying 3 1st round picks and a 2nd for a player that only was been a PPG player is good value? It’s just because it’s Matt’s brother.. Zito lost it, just the trade deadline a few seasons ago imo..

Pick 9, 25, and 2029 aren’t helping this team win a cup. The window is now so Zito is going all out. All 3 of those picks aren’t giving you a sniff of a player as good as Brady. Also this is the same thing people said about the M Tkachuk deal. Overpayment blah blah blah. Brady is one of the most unique players in the league. He’s a f***ing animal. He’s a more skilled, but less aggressive Tom Wilson. Teams pay out the ASS for that player. We have one of the best top 9s in the history of the NHL right now.

Sure erod and boqvist can be shipped off but were also without any 1sts until 2030, which couldve been nice for some trade deadlines.

Adding brady for sure makes us the best forward group in the nhl, no question and at least we have brady at 8.5mil for a few years until he needs a new contract, but a glaring hole at goalie is all i can think about

Honestly Zito for sure has a plan. And I would’ve absolutely supported Helly here but man he was so shit the last 3 playoffs. He wasn’t just bad, he cratered his team. This team doesn’t need a great goalie, they need one that can just not cost us.

I'm almost as thrilled that Helle isn't coming here as I am that Brady is. Much better use of assets imo. Brady is also only 26, and you know he's extending. This is such a great, great move. It's gonna pump the whole team up and Brady's gonna be great here without the pressure of a Canadian market and having the be the guy and captain in Ottawa. It's also great we didn't have to give up Vilmanis, Devine, Alscher or Benning. Just picks. Now go get Binnington or UPL.

I do disagree about BT, but that’s fine. IMO he is overrated, but might find som chemistry with his brother.

I’m not willing to risk it all for a few cup runs (no cups guaranteed), for 10 years of misery. We, as an organization, should think longer than that. Zito will be gone, so he obviously doesn’t care about our future.

In 5 years time, we will have no good prospects, the core is 35+, and what are we gonna do then?

BT doesn’t improve our team that much imo. Barely made it past PPG once. Overrated and overpaid imo.
But no one knows the future..
