I’m not willing to risk it all for a few cup runs (no cups guaranteed), for 10 years of misery. We, as an organization, should think longer than that. Zito will be gone, so he obviously doesn’t care about our future.

In 5 years time, we will have no good prospects, the core is 35+, and what are we gonna do then?

BT doesn’t improve our team that much imo. Barely made it past PPG once. Overrated and overpaid imo.
But no one knows the future..

No cup is ever guaranteed but Zito just shot up our chances like crazy. I’d sacrifice this team’s future every day of the week to maximize the chances to win. I’ve watched too many shitty teams. You also get no satisfaction if your team is good but never wins. When the core is that age you start the rebuild. The core at that age no matter how many great up and coming youngsters we have will never win a god damn thing.

Honestly Zito for sure has a plan. And I would’ve absolutely supported Helly here but man he was so shit the last 3 playoffs. He wasn’t just bad, he cratered his team. This team doesn’t need a great goalie, they need one that can just not cost us.

Yup. Zito made the right move here. Helle was too big a risk for the pricetag. To get Shesty, you'd have to give up Lundell likely in the package, not just picks. Especially because Rangers are old at center. We still have plenty of money to fill out a great team.

Once the core is over the hill, you sell them for picks at the deadlines. The only reason to wallow in mediocrity is if we emotionally cling to guys past our window of contention instead of jump starting a tank-rebuild.

i like that idea at goalie, obv wouldve preferred the bigger fish but with our group those guys will do fine

2 years is a long time to wait. He also might change his mind about where he wants to play in that time. The time was right to pounce and snag him.

I'm almost as thrilled that Helle isn't coming here as I am that Brady is. Much better use of assets imo. Brady is also only 26, and you know he's extending. This is such a great, great move. It's gonna pump the whole team up and Brady's gonna be great here without the pressure of a Canadian market and having the be the guy and captain in Ottawa. It's also great we didn't have to give up Vilmanis, Devine, Alscher or Benning. Just picks. Now go get Binnington or UPL.

I would f***ing cackle at signing Binnington at this point. I'm all in on being the most hated team.
