I thought that hip check by Pionk was legit last night and I stand by it today, don't care what talking heads on SN had to say about time of the game. The game ends at the final buzzer

If you watch the replay you can see the intent was a hip check but the point of contact was actually the Panther player's upper leg. I don't think it was intentional, but Neal missed. Seems weird it wasn't a penalty but yet it's a $5,000 fine.

Does point of impact really matter, Pionk didn't knee or trip him and used his hip, well that's how I interpret the hit.

That may be true - but riddle me this. Why is it that we look to insert Heinola for "his opportunity" at a time when the Jets are playing a physical direct, hard fore-checking team that is admittedly our kryptonite, AND, usually at a point in time where the team has lost it`s confidence /commitment to sound hockey and has started to struggle?

How about Instead of talking in riddles and innuendo just ask a question directly or properly.

Why does heinola get brought up? Because prospect thumpers on here think he along with others Jets prospects are the hottest shit on the team. If you don't think so, read some of the pre season threads.

If you think 3rd pair heinola helps win any of the games that the Jets have lost, which is 3/18, id like to see your proof or how you come to the conclusion of that.

Yes, point of contact matters -
If you take a guy out at the Knees it's a clip - and those types of hits can end a players career.
Not that any hit couldn't do the same but high and low hits are the ones that can potentially cause a lot of damage

I guess I saw the hit a little different, initial hit mid thigh finishing a little lower down close to the knee. I don't think initial contact was the knee. Maybe I need glasses

Definitely not a good game but it doesn't take anything away from the record breaking start to the season. We are 15-3 and no one would have thought that. Jets will return the favor at home on Tuesday.

Q: If we got here by going 5-1, 5-1, 5-1 would anyone complain?
A: Not as long as we start the next 6 game set with a win.

I agree. If Stanley is out for an extended time then give him a run of games. Our third pairing has had trouble moving the puck lately and imo I think Miller needs a partner who does most of the heavy load in that regard. We need to see if that element of Ville's game can translate.

We also need DeMelo to get his game on track. I think JoMo is trying to do too much as a result and it's impacting his performance as well.

The corollary of the player having a career year in the last year of his contract is the player having a bad year, or at least a bad start the season after signing a big contract. DeMelo's might not be that big compared to some others but it is big compared to any previous contract of his. Value 19.6 mil. Previous career earnings 16.5 mil.

I expect him to rebound soon.

I guess I don't know the rule well enough. I don't see a problem with the point of contact being the upper leg. Knee is a different story, whether knee on knee or not.

I don't like hip checks - and you rarely see them in the game anymore.
They are hard to time and usually leave you way out of position if you miss.
As for what is legal or not, it's not the hip check that they are calling out - it's a low hit (clip) that is the issue.
Hip checks do not have to be that low - is certainly wasn't perfectly executed (IMO)

In one of the highlights packs I watched, there's one Jets goal replayed from the other end of the rink and you can clearly see 55 stops skating at centre ice and just glides behind the puck carrier.


Better a fine he won't even notice than a suspension which we'll all notice on the ice.

I'd have to se the replay you're referring to, but the puck carrier is normally not the backchecker's responsibility
