Proposal: Panarin for Kempe

I wouldn't trade Kempe for Panarin if they had even cap hits.

At their current contracts? I wouldn't do it even if the Rags added a 1st. LA has enough soft forwards, not trading away the one who isn't

The only scenario in which I see Panarin traded to the Kings is if the Rangers need to clear cap space to sign Marner.
He would look really good next to Kopitar and Kempe. And if Kuzmenkovs demands are too rich that might be an avenue the Kings will explore, but they should never trade Kempe for him
Nobody would look really good next to shadow of player Kopitar used to be.

Next season will be final season for him before retirement.

P.S. Kings also need to clear cap space to sign Marner, not to trade for Panarin.

I don't see Panarin pushing them over the hump when it comes to playoffs. Kempe hasn't been the problem in the playoffs and Panarin hasn't been impressive lately in the playoffs. This doesn't make sense since they both have 1 year on their cap, and Panarin cost more. The cap hit for Kempe is beautiful and even if he doesn't extend, there's no difference in losing him for nothing or losing Panarin for nothing. They should just keep what they have.
I think he could. LA's biggest issue is they don't have a superstar anymore. Byfield should break out at some point but is probably never a threat for 90+ points. Kings need someone who can turn the tides offensively, Ottawa was the only other team to make the playoffs without a ppg+ player, and at least they were close with Stutzle getting 79.

No, Panarin would have the same offensive numbers playing on a defensive team like the Kings. Kempe is a much better fit fir the Kings.

Kempe has nothing to do with what I said.

I'm pretty sure a line of Panarin, Byfield and one of Kempe or Fiala would result in some high scoring. LA changed coaches just last year, you can't make the argument that the system is holding back their offense.

The Kings play an Uber defensive system and it’s clear the system holds back the offense. Not many players would be a PPG guy in LA system. In LA if you make mistakes defensively trying to make offense you will pay for it with ice time. Not saying that’s the right outlook these days but that’s how the LA brass runs things.

I wouldn't exactly agree with that. It's a personnel over system issue.

They don't really have a #1c or a #1d that plays an offensive game. Kopitar constantly cheats offense for defense, and Doughty has never been a big offensive threat. Change either of those players and you will see a much more offensive team, because as good as they have been for a long time, both of them play to not lose as opposed to playing aggressively to win.

Because their best players have a similar outlook on the game, the roster has been built around their style. And as we have learned for 15 years now, it only works if you have an incredibly deep team that can bring passion and enthusiasm to the room.
