Rumor: Pagnotta: "Rasmus Andersson is open to a trade, he would welcome it" It would cost 3 assets...1st rnd pick, prospect, +

That won’t do it…we’d absolutely have to move one of Yager or Lambert or our offer would easily be beat by other teams.
As I’ve stated earlier in this thread, I’m fine with a 1st+Yager+Heinola(+) type deal, but as has by posted by others, if we can wait til the offseason so we can talk extension prior, then that would be the optimal choice…but if not, life is risk, make the deal
I'm not keen on moving Ras at all, but Yager and a 1st would certainly have me considering it. Might even be enough to convince me to go to a Hurricanes game and actually cheer for them for the first time since the team that went to the Memorial Cup that had Phillips, Salvador, Byron and Willis.

Josh Norris+ or Shane Pinto+
I'm actually in favor of trading for Norris, but no way would he be a centerpiece for Andersson, not with his contract and injury history. Not to say he couldn't be part of it, but there would have to be something else as the centerpiece, including a 1st.

Also, I'm not sure the Sens will be willing to trade a first in teh next 2 years since they still have to forfeit one.

From a Jets POV, I feel our need is much bigger at 2C then on D. Don't get me wrong, I would take Ras of course but highly doubt the Jets would get both Ras and a decent 2C (it would be too expensive to land both) and if I had to choose one I would go with a 2C by far.

Buffalo should be all over it. Byram + 1st + a prospec (perhaps less, Byram is a better centerpiece - and certainly not a 1sr without some protection, but as a framework. Could be a 2nd and a prospect. A protected 1st. 1st conditional on an extension… idk, or care. Conceptually there’s a good fit Buffalo should be looking into).

Byram is from Calgary. Andersson pairs with Dahlin and makes the Rasmus squared pair while balancing out Buffalo’s pairs a bit. Find a physical defense first #4 type to pair with Power, keep Samuelsson and Clifton on the third pair and you’re in business.
Imagine if Buffalo could snatch both Andersson and Pettersson (and maybe Hoglander too in the same deal). They would become a contender for the Cup.

Flames also have Backlund who still makes everyone around him better.

Where as I feel our RHD is the bigger need…plus if we have the chance at a player like Anderson…we absolutely should take it.

So if I'm getting this straight, he wants out of Calgary because he doesn't want to be in a rebuild and MTL fans think he's going to want to go to....a rebuilding team. Got it.
Depends where the team is in the rebuild. At the moment they are in the mix. His addition may take the team up a step.

Think Backlund is a 3C on a contender at this stage in his career
It's hard to say, with his ability to provide Selke level defensive play while making everyone around him better, I don't think it would hurt to use him as a 2C on a contender. Even if used as a 3C, he's a high end 3C, he'd be a significant upgrade on Kupari and I think he'd fit Nino and Perfetti like a glove

Just to be 100% clear, he's never once said he wants out of Calgary. In fact he's been pretty clear he wants to stay.

Pagnotta shouldn't ever be considered a reliable source.

As others have said, I don't think he's a solution at 2C for a team who wants to make a deep push into the playoffs
I mean improvement is improvement is it not? At worst it is a massive upgrade at 3C. I don't think a contender would be worried at all if they went into the playoffs with Lowry and Backlund as their middle 6 centers.

Backlund stays in Calgary. For the 2nd rounder they would get for him it's not worth it. Finished his career in Calgary and moved into a front office or coaching position. Iggy, backlund and Conroy lead the team into the new arena and promise land.

Jets aren't going to replace Lowry at 3C so its a moot subject. They would be aiming higher then Backlund at 2C, Jets aren't going to upgrade their bottom 6 forwards. If they upgrade 2C, then Names drops to 4C which would be great. Their needs are IMO:

2C

Depending on where the Flames sit in the standings a month or so from now Kadri could definitely beade available too if he's willing to waive

Pretty sure Lowry is their 2C
