Pack your $#!@ and get out!

Quantity vs quality argument? Yeesh.

There's no player on this team I "want" to go away. Whatever improves the team, do it.

You'd have a hard time arguing that Dion is superior to a 3.5-4 mil dman. Would you not want 2 of those which gives us more depth vs 1 dman @ 7 that plays like 3.4-4?

You'd have a hard time arguing Clarkson is better than a $13,000 ECHL player.

I would

We have to give him another year though. It seriously couldn't get any worse

And I'll bookmark this post :p

I hope I'm not "proven wrong" because that would mean Nonis is forcing Clarkson on the 2nd line and bringing the entire team down to try and make himself look less of a fool and in the process proving he's the biggest fool of all.

Oh I've already stated that if unless clarkson has a lights out pre season, he better see 4th line time. All of the new kids performed more than he did. He's lucky the goalies didn't have more assists and beat his point total

You have to remember that Nonis is no longer the boss...Yes most GM's will keep forcing the issue with one of their hand picked free agents or draft picks but luckily (for us) Shanny doesn't have an emotional tie to any player in the organization.

Or you keep your elite defenseman and add a couple kids on ELCs. That's how the champs do it.

That's where we'll never agree. IMO there's nothing elite about him. His resume agrees

Dion is a #3 or #4 defenseman...What's the going rate for a second pairing d-man these days,4M?

I'm not the world's biggest Phaneuf fan but if Paul Stastny is going to command $7 million, I'd rather have Dion any day of the week. Top pairing D-man or another 2nd line center when we already have 2 of them.

Franson and Clarkson for anything, anyone else would have to be for a reasonable return that would benefit the team in the long run

Just to show how ridiculous this statement is that would mean he plays like

Emelin
Liles
Brewer
Jovanovski
Volchenkov
Schenn
Stuart
Souray
Grossman
Allen
Smid
Oduya

Dion, not because I hate him or his contract, I'm just so sick of his existence being a focal point of discussion. It's not Dion's lack of leadership, it's the exaggerated whining about him that has become a distraction. Also genuinely curious to see what trade value he has.

Franson, he's god awful.

Clarkson? If possible but I'll boldly predict he has a 20/20 season (I know whomever is reading this is disagreeing with right now, I know his career statistics, you need not point what I already know). I'm fine with giving him another season before writing him off.

Bozak, he's just a ban aid on the top line, there is a narrow window to get value for him as he'll come back to earth this season, he's shoot percentage was ridiculously high indicating this year was a fluke.

Clarkson just needs to put his head down and do the dirty work that he did in NJ...He came to Tor as the Golden Boy and forgot what he does best...I really think the spotlight went to his head...He can bounce back because it wasn't pure skill that made him a prized free agent.
