What do you mean who cares???
Okay, just let him sit forever and ever, until he caves, who cares...

Smart business I tell you.

If you don't want to sign him, trade him, now, not after the season, not after a year, now.
If you don't want to trade him, then actually negotiate a freaking deal. 2.2M for this year is not even a start.

Look...
I totally agree with you on the bolded one.

But the idea to trade him is not to get rid of him.

It's to get the best possible deal out of him.

Not a Talbot + 1st Rounder thing, or not the absolute optimal deal.

I wish they would edit the title.

It's not TERM it's money.

Subban deserved the 4 mill range based on comparable players.

Bergevin is offering Subban 3rd liner money.

Subban has already said he'll accept a 2 year deal if the money is reasonable.

The reported offer is so far away from being reasonable it's downright sickening.
And that's really the problem. We're not even offering 3.5 or 4. At least there I could say we'll we're trying to get him cheap... We're just flat out lowballing the guy. 2.1 for next year and 2.9 for the following? And then folks actually come here and say Subban is putting himself ahead of the team?

Bottom line is we have a rookie GM who's going to do a lot of damage to this team if he keeps screwing around like this. Completely dumb that this hasn't been resolved by now and there's now a real chance of losing this guy and if we do... then whatever rebuilding we've already done is going to be setback significantly and we're extending the journey to the cup by years.

Can't believe we're still discussing this. And I can't believe there are actually people out there who think that MB is right in making this lowball offer.

Not going to happen. Why?

Look no further than the smear campaign that is currently going on with RDS and specifically L'Antichambre. Almost all of them are absolutely hating on Subban and have absolute rager's for Bergevin. The media is prepping the public for Subban's departure, trying to demonize him and trying to prop up Bergevin in the process. It's working too. Bergevin is a fresh face, so he currently has the benefit of the doubt from the majority of people. The other factor is he is francophone, so whatever he does right now is going to get praised by the franco-media.

This wouldn't be happening under the Bob Gainey regime, one I think Bob would have signed PK. Two, Bob would have never let the media smear PK Subban signed or not the way they currently are. Three, the media would be smearing Gainey.

I'm not even a fan of Gainey, as a matter of fact I hated him. I do think he would have handled the PK Subban situation much better though. He wouldn't be flexing the way Bergevin is.

I see where you are coming from and your points are valid however I think PK's Subban's popularity amongst fans (especially the ''younger'' fans) will prevail over the francophone-old-fartz smear campaign that we see in the media on shows like anti-kaka.

My money is that the young, talented, swagger of PK Subban has more appeal than anything that can come out of '' Jean-Guy-Michel Bergefak'' azzhole.

What the hell was that? When you trade a player, he is no longer on your team, and it means you do get rid of him. In PK case, the phrase "get rid of him" is a perfect description.

Sometime it's hard to understand some of our fans around here. I feel like some of Habs' management teams actually post on this board.:sarcasm:

I can imagine Bergevin asking the jets GM for Trouba and him answering : well if you like Subban so much why don't you sign him.

The Habs are NOT trading Subban...don't know how many times this must be repeated

We are a LONG way away from the Habs even considering trading Subban...you can't refuse to sign Subban to a deal even starting at 3M, then at the same time, ask for a fair trade in return

there's no logic behind that...then again, this whole situation isn't logical

At least in the case of Bogosian he is NHL ready. He isn't dynamic offensively like PK but he is adequate. Burmistrov has a lot of talent and may end up an elusive second line scoring threat.

I don't want to trade Subban but that's who I would target if we were trying to make a deal. Plus, Timmins loved Bogosian in the '08 draft.

Another problem with this :

Both Burmistrov and Bogosian are RFA at the end of the season.

Now, the best thing about the Habs, regarding the salary cap, is that they have only one player who has to be "negotiated with" for a contract that will be over 1 million PER (excluding Armstrong and Budaj, who won't get any signficant raises, if they get a raise or a contract at all).

You got it the wrong way.

KC : I'm interested in Subban.
MB : Start with Trouba
KC : I don't want to.
MB : And I don't have to trade Subban. Goodbye.

Is Subban with the team at the moment?

In other words : Bergevin isn't in a "dump mode" (see, Ribero, Mike), or hopefully he isn't in a "dump mode".

A blip? :biglaugh:

Losing an elite young talent on the blue-line because you're low-balling him is not a blip. That's a colossal, gargantuan, humongous, gigantic, titantic, monstrous mistake.

As you said, there is no logic in that whole situation. It becomes very hard to predict what's coming next when nothing makes sense.

I really hate the idea of trading Subban mostly because of this...

We would probably(95% sure) the best player in the deal but get more than one asset. Our system has a lot of "good" players but we only have 3-4 guys who might be "great" in Price Subban Pacioretty Galchenyuk as potential all stars.

Subban may never reach his full potential but I'd rather take my chances that he will and lose out on a "b" asset.

I wonder what impact today's game will have. The Devils are the first not completely terrible team we are facing this season.

I can imagine Bergevin right now after we lose

"Subban, we lost tonight because you were not on the ice. As a result I am offering you a two year contract worth 1.5 and 2.1 million."

I indeed think they aren't.

But Bergevin doesn't have to accept a deal.

I mean, if a GM basically begs MB to trade him Subban (with an offer looking like Jacob Trouba + Patrice Cormier + 1st rounder + 2nd rounder, with Winnipeg possibly being a team excluded from playoffs at the moment of the offer), then I'm sure he'll give this offer a very long look.
