Owen Sound Attack 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

This was a great season for the Attack team and organization. Great to see a rebuilding team fill or sell out the rink on most nights during the second half and playoffs. This shows that fans believe in what is happening. We have some things to work on, but if this organization continues on the current path, we will have plenty to cheer about. Thank You, Attack!

Question for you guys. Do you guys think Max Delise will only want to play with Owen Sound with his brother or he will report to whoever drafts him if he goes before the 5th pick?

Find out next Friday but it sounds like he won't be there at pick 5 most likely. Nobody has talked about any players as of yet playing any draft day shenanigans to get to a certain team so I would have to assume he'd go where he's selected.

The future is bright in Owen Sound!
I called this team getting into the playoffs in December and they didn't disappoint.
They battled all the way. Some key culture was certainly instilled in the young guys by your vets like Hookey and Leonard.
Hopefully next year I will make it to the Bayshore for a game. I always have good intentions but haven't made it yet..

Fan base needs a pat on the back for stepping up and supporting the rebuild. "They" said that OS fans would only show up if the team was winning. This year was great, way more entertaining than last year when the team was supposed to contend. Glad that the ownership group made a bit of coin off the two big playoff crowds.

Yeah hopefully this season puts to bed any notion that we have to chase 30 wins a season or the fairweather fans won't show.

Hope, entertaining hockey, and a blue collar work ethic (in such a blue collar city) will bring in the fans.

Any fun projected lineup’s for next year? I know a lot of talk will be around Carter George if you trade him in the off-season or at the trade deadline. Would you trade Korpi in the off-season and ride Bennett as the backup to start the season? Will Dec be a full timer next year or will he be at St.Andrews again?

IMO. Send korpi down to OJHL let him get playing time. go George and Bennett until trade deadline and trade George for a kings ransom then Bennett starter and korpi backup, next year both will be even better. Who knows korpi could take a big jump and be better than Bennett but I think Bennett has way more potential.

Dec hasn’t announced yet but he dominated prince andrews. Shouldn’t be back there. I say 1 more year in Owen Sound and then NCAA season after (2026/27)

You’ll have one hell of a team. 2026/27 is without question the go for it year. Pick best guy available out of Warren, Wycisk, McGregor, Delisle, Murata- whoever is available by then, I think it should be Delisle or Murata. Maybe Delisle tells a couple teams at the top he doesn’t want to go there and forces his way to Owen Sound which would only be a couple spots down? Doesn’t seem that unrealistic.

I think 2/3 current goalies on the roster will be traded by September, Koprowski almost certainly wants a chance to start somewhere (there are whispers he's already requested a trade, being blocked by George), and Bennett may be in the same boat if there's interest at the OHL level. I think we're looking at a George plus 16 year old high draft pick as the tandem most likely. I suppose there's a chance it's Bennett and Koprowski in the event of a George trade, but I doubt it.

Matt is 17...next season 18 which means he will be here for 26/27...the other two will not...I think the writing is on the wall....not sure about asking for a trade, in my many many conversations with him about this very topic that has never came up

In a perfect world, he'd be the guy they build around for that season, I totally agree. But timing is a huge part of this and I'm not convinced that both George and Bennett won't be in his way next season. I hope he wants to stick around, the whispers I chalk up to small town chatter. And the George trade is complicated and I think it's a coinflip as to whether he finishes next season in Owen Sound. Efficiency might be damned when you have a goalie as good as him.

Not sure the team's ever been in this situation before, it's an embarrassment of riches in net, but they have to get it right to keep everybody happy or maximize the player's value to team.

I think Koprowski gets unfairly judged when he plays behind a goalie of the caliber of Carter George. His starts were irregular, which I speak from experience, is hard to stay sharp and things like rebound control generally suffer. Practice as hard as you like but you can't replicate game situations. Then when he did get in the net, he played in front of one of the youngest rosters in the league as a rookie himself.

Next year the team will be a little older and a better quality team and I suspect we see a noticeable improvement from Koprowski as well. He has a solid tool kit as a goalie and with some regular starts I think you'd see more consistency from him.

No matter what the management team decides to do in net next year it should still be a position of strength for the team. If George is the starter again next year I'd like to see the back up play a little more frequently, like once a weak I think would be ideal.

For me, I think the tandem should be Bennett and Koprowski next year. Draft an 09 goalie with the second 2nd rounder or the 3rd round pick to groom to back up the following season at 17. I think they do need to try and focus on building around guys who will be a part of the contention window which for me opens in the 2026-2027 season. I think there's a 2-3 year window coming if they nail the 09 draft group.

I love George and it's been a pleasure to watch him but the reality is he will be a luxury item on a team that isn't ready to win next season and then is gone the year they should be ready to win. He's also the only trade chip outside of Bedkowski that will bring back a big haul to build up the war chest. I think preferably it's a move made in the offseason as it removes the situation of the team potentially carrying three NHL drafted goalies.

Reason why trading George is important is not that he is a bad kid or goalie obviously- it is important because of the 2-3 year window. George will be back next year as a 19 year old, he the starting goalie in all likelihood at the world juniors and probably be in the running for chl goalie of the year. His value will be similar in to Michael dipietro

You want those picks and a player to use for years to come. Next year will be a building year. Probably top 4/5 in conference is my guess until you trade George and fall off to about 6th/7th/8th

Year after the top team probably in your division and in one of the best in the west

Trade George midway through after Bennett learns more from Carter and can hopefully take that with him into the future. At start of season or before would be a massive mistake because I don’t think his value would really increase that much because people know what they’re getting with the kid. Whoever trades for him instantly becomes a top contender in the league. We all see how good he is for you guys and without him there’s no chance you guys even sniff playoffs. He’s gonna be good.

Who will be the contenders next year in the west? I’d imagine London will lose a bunch of guys. Kitchener loses the best goalie in the league, so maybe Windsor again? Erie maybe.

Bennett and Carter are the same age..Bennett has a NCAA commit the following year when it may be our year and will be an OA...Bennett's future with the Attack is for trade capital in my opinion...Matt is the goalie for 2 years from now

Ah I thought Bennett was a year older. draft one of the first goalies and trade George midway through, Bennett in off season and maybe second half of season go with koprowski and the 16 year old rookie? Will get lit up a lot of games but will build character and experience for following season.

Or if that doesn’t work out could always go with an import goalie following year!

Just out of curiosity, in this hypothetical situation, would you deal Bennett in the offseason and George at the deadline? Or hold George through the year? I doubt you get anywhere near the value dealing Bennett alone.

My main issue with running George through the season is he plays the bulk of the games and the guy behind him rarely sees game action. I think ideally next year is about developing your starter for the contending window rather than trying to work in a back up as a starter in that season. Whoever that starter is going to be has to play games, at least in my opinion. Playing behind George brings some value in learning behind the scenes but you'll never learn as much as you can if you're not playing games. I think if you're the coaching staff it's way too convenient to throw George in there for all the key games/situations but those are the best learning moments. Bit of a catch 22 situation for me.

I think Bennett goes in the summer...Carter and Matt to start the season, then decide at deadline about Carter

That's an intriguing scenario. I've got not the slightest clue as to what kind of return you could get for Bennett but he showed really well in his OHL starts this year. I'd imagine there would be interest in him for sure, especially as a non OA goalie.

I'd be curious in a thought experiment if you could get a bigger trade package back moving Bennett in the offseason and George at the deadline vs moving George in the offseason and running with Bennett and Koprowski in net? Honestly, I hadn't considered it. Maybe that is the best way to go and hope the deadline builds trade value for George if you can get multiple teams in play to boost the return.

Bennett will most definitely start somewhere if he is NHL drafted .

If Koprowski is , his NHL team will insist on starts since he is on their dime.

I'd see Bennett moved as a favour for his development before the season starts, , Koprowski and Carter with a more balanced schedule ( maybe 10 weeks tops till Carter goes to Wld Jr camp), then the Attack moves him for a haul to a contender, including their now surplus goalie.
Then Matthew gets the bulk of games as the starter
