Owen Sound Attack 2024-25 Season Thread, Part II

Honestly a fever dream watching the draft last night. Two American kids and one of them an 07. Given the team typically aims for its top 4 picks to all be on the roster, it's going to be a training camp for the ages.

Max Delisle is definitely the crown jewel in the Attack '25 draft class.

I get the feeling there will be plenty of space for players to fill openings.

5 American picks. Nicholas Sykora ( Peter's son) is projected 3rd round NHL .
USBTDP G Eli Winters next season ?

There's a lot to be excited about .
2nd round D Blake Munnings .

training camp at Shallow lake arena.

BTW, 75 fans enjoyed the Attack's draft watch party, had a Q&A session with Max, Tristan, and Miguel Delisle, and Dale Degray throughout the draft, explaining each draft selection . Delisles are thrilled to be in OS .
Max will wear #10.

Very interesting weekend for us diehards

Planning on going up there next year. Will be an exciting young team. Never too early to plan! Any good restaurants in Owen Sound?

Hopefully for our sake we play you before we start trading guys around deadline and then end up as one of the worst in the league.

Haven’t been there yet. Been to most arenas in OHL not Owen Sound, Windsor, Saginaw, Flint, Sudbury, or Soo

Mudtown Station is great

Parkwood is really good

If you want more typical diner food then Elsie's Diner or Kettles are good options but aren't all that close to the rink. Boot and Blade is a staple too.

If you want something more upscale then Shanny's Kitchen is a great spot.

Just playing around with some line combos and curious what the general thoughts would be on this:

This assumes Sykora comes. If not, maybe shift Wray up and slot in Prud'homme on the third line? I'm expecting Vandeven signs as he had a nice season in the GOJHL and brings size and the Attack keep Varosyan. This would drop Waddick, Cormier, Tersigni and Mikus but replace them with M.Delisle, Vandeven, Jackman and Sykora. This would be pre-import draft which I imagine they use the pick on an impact forward?

D-pairings could look something like:

This would assume Kwajah signs as has been speculated for awhile now and Roy joins fulltime. Rogers is shifted out and Bleicher moves on. Greenberg goes to school and McCrate sticks with his NCAA commitment for next season. Roy would play the right side as a LHD but when he was drafted it was noted he was playing on that side anyways so may be a natural fit there. This would be a young D core with three 08s.

I’m fine with what you have, I’m just over Nansi. I’d probably replace him with waddick or Cormier. I dunno, he is good on the puck but doesn’t score. I wouldn’t be upset to see him be traded. But that’s just my opinion.

Based on scuttlebutt
Mbuyi-T Delisle- Wray

Sykora-Dec-Zurawaski

VandEven / Prudhomme-Crawford-Nansi

Import-VandEven/Prudhomme- M Delisle

That looks pretty solid too. I think RW is a little weak as is. Nansi is probably on the clock to start the year. I think he's got big upside if he can put it together but how long can you afford to wait? I suspect that will be a call made by the deadline next season. I just think he's a guy you'd hate to move and see blossom somewhere else but that leash is likely getting short. I think the Attack would like Max Delisle at centre but I could see him moving up at right wing if the transition to the OHL is relatively smooth. He can split his time a bit between centre and right wing. His physical maturity likely gives the coaching staff some options on how they look to deploy him.

Also, both our lineups don't include an OA. That is something they likely add if it's not Waddick(which is still a possibility) as there will be options available to the Attack at likely reasonable prices.

I have a hard time slotting three OAs for next year. One forward and One D OA seems about right for next year. I think there's a enough young talent in the mix that I'd prefer to have them playing rather than have an OA shuffle them out of the lineup. Wray is the only 06 in that mix so the roster still favours the youth.

I'm kind of surprised at the number of cut players in the above projections. On one hand, yes the team wasn't very good this year, and so guys will get shuffled out (and no doubt the level for what is an OHL player will be going up), but on the other hand, have a hard time imagining the team not running three overagers, and cutting multiple 19 year olds.

Also not sure I see three rookies on defence next season. Rogers may have struggled to find an identity this season but he was still ~40th in OHL defencemen scoring, and we only had two D break 10 points this season. We also spent a high pick on another defensive minded dman, and no indication that either of the 08's that will push for spots are going to be offensive dynamos (it is hard to put up points as a 17 year old D in the OHL - just 8 U18 D had 20 or more points this season).

I see Tersigni and Smith as the returnees that will have to most fight for their spots. If Greenberg goes to school, then add an overage forward. Could also see a scenario where Kindree, not able to take the next step or carve out what he is at the OHL level, fighting to stay on the team, too.

I think the team would be foolish to trade Nansi. The offensive consistency wasn't there, but as the season went on he showed how strong he is down low and on the cycle. There is a reason he's still on draft rankings after a 20ish point draft year - if the physical maturity happens, he could be a star. Worth betting on that talent.

Reality is the 06 group, outside of George, has been a flop. Cormier and Tersigni now both have three years in the league, played centre and wing, played up and down the lineup and special teams, neither has carved out a role and have now been passed on the depth chart by younger guys. What confidence is there in those two specifically to find it at 19 based on the body of work? It's an unfortunate part of the business but I think they've run out of runway.

Rogers, playing amongst a pretty young and inexperienced Dcore, really struggled to secure a top 4 role this year. He did take a pretty decent bump in offense but I wouldn't say he necessarily generates a lot offense on his own. 10 of his 28 points came on the PP where he was often the second D on a 2D 5 man unit. I think with the D pieces the Attack have, he's likely going to get squeezed. I'm not sure Munnings is a total defensive Dman either. The write ups I've found on him say his defensive end and gap control are strong and he contributes to the secondary offense. I read that his him being more of a two way D than a defensive Dman. Time will tell on him I suppose.

The OA situation is interesting. The only lock for me is Petrovski. I'd upgrade on Waddick if it were up to me. I think if Sykora comes and you get an impact forward with the import draft then it's harder to see where you fit a third OA as it would need to be a higher end player, at least in my opinion, to take away the playing time of some of the younger guys.

I think Kindree stays in the mix next year. He was playing pretty decent hockey at the end of the year. It'd be too early to move off a player like him in my opinion.

Jackman is apparently reporting too. Will definitely need to find space for him.
