I wonder if there is any hesitation with the Attack's deadline approach that was laid out in early December by GM DeGray? He mentioned at the time it wasn't a good time to sell as so many teams were tight together in point standings that a good week or back week could significantly swing things. Since then the top 5 teams have pulled away and now there is a 7 point gap from 5th seed Guelph and 6 seed Owen Sound. 6th place Owen Sound sits 4 points up on 8th place Flint with Erie nipping on their heels a point back in 7th. We're due to get Barlow back after Christmas which is a big piece for the Attack but is it enough to elevate them into that top 5 seed mix? It seems like this team is settling into the 6/7 seed.
6 games left prior to the deadline:
12/28 -Niagara
12/30 - Kitchener
12/31 - Barrie
1/4 - Erie
1/5 - Niagara
1/6 - Guelph
Not much time left to make decisions and the teams above us will likely bring in pieces which makes that 7 point gap harder to overcome. Is it worth moving assets to finish 6th? As much as it seemed this would be a good year for the Attack coming into the season, it hasn't gone as well as we had hoped. I think it's hard to justify buying at this point.
I think the next wave is clearly going to be around the 07 group and the next contention window would seem to be around George's 19 year old season. Would it not make sense to move out some vets and try to acquire picks and 06 players(if possible) to supplement that next window? Create some more opportunity for the younger players and make them more ready for next season and maybe have a chance to do what Mississauga is doing this year where they have a very talented younger roster that's currently tied for first in the East.
Sedley and Goure would both warrant a decent return as OA players. Guindon and Petrovsky would both warrant a decent package though limited market for import players. Maybe Jordan? It would open the door for some more regular ice time for Smith and Ethier and expanded roles for Addy, Crawford and Nansi. Get Tersigni back into the line up on a regular basis. It would be painful without question, but would it not make this team better down the road?
