I mean I assume he will get the PP2 spot. They trust him with ice time and PK already. And eventually got him in there on the PP. It was just weird they had him doing PK immediately and waited a while for the PP

Less pressure to just come in and play ES minutes, and a confidence booster to get him on the PK but the PP time will come. I wonder a bit if it is making sure the team knows how he plays as the forwards need to make sure they know how deep he gets, how long he stays low on the forecheck or circles to the net. He'll get his PP time.

Sabres.com still searching their Photos folder.

PSA: He's going to have his rough games.

Trade ideas involving him for forward help will be just as stupid as the Dahlin ones were.

(I'm just getting out ahead of this)
Power for Chychrun, worth thinking about it. :sarcasm:

they could have just drafted beniers and avoided this problem altogether. anyway, that ship sailed and power will probably be okay, but it just wouldn't be a Buffalo Sabres Hockey Season without a big defenseman playing 1/3 of the game rocking a 35% corsi and xgf%

What? Already? Should Beniers be drafted after the first game? Come on dude, this is a bad double.

I was one of (maybe the only) guy on here who was pushing hard for Beniers over Power, so this is just my thing. But Beniers is crushing it in Seattle, he absolutely looks like the real deal, while we are back to talking about our lovable big defenseman who just needs to right partner to unlock his potential.

You can go into Seattle thread and congratulate them on choosing Beniers, but shitting on Power after the first game of the season is wrong. Especially since he looked good at the end of last season. I also don't see any problems with centers in the near future, especially given this year's draft.

Yeah, and that PSA was for folks like you.

Of course he needs the right veteran partner right now. Despite his bad leadership and injury plague, Zach Bogosian was an ideal partner for a rookie Dahlin in 18-19.

He's f***ing 19. He's played 9 NHL games. Starting on some victory lap for Beniers now is insane.

I can't wait to re-visit some of this stuff in 3 years when Dahlin, Samuelsson are 25, and Power is 22.

I said Power will probably be okay. I mean, you might consider that "damning with faint praise," but it's a far cry from just trashing a guy.

Do you actually not know how development works for forwards versus defenseman or are you just pretending not to in order to confirm your biases?

When he came in at the end of last season he had just played a whole season and was filled with confidence and polish. All they asked him to do is just play a simple game and acclimate.

This season he is coming in as the primary on the second pairing (with 9-10 games NHL experience), and I would bet that Granato has told him to go ahead and spread his wings, go ahead and attack, and make your mistakes. It is going to be bumpy for awhile.

I think the Joker-Power pairing hurts them both. I actually like Joker, but he is rarely used on this team for what he does well, because there are already people doing that. He is a puck moving offensive defenseman and excels when he is skating and attacking. When you ask him to be the defensive safety net for Dahlin in the first case, and now Power, he is outside his element and it shows. The Sabres need to find a hockey trade swapping Joker to a team that is overloaded with defensive defenseman. Even if you move Joker to the 3rd pair, who do you pair him with? Power should be with Lybushkin.

You’d think people wouldn’t post awful reactions after one game of a rookie season.

You’d really think people know by now how ridiculous that is.

But you’d be wrong

Some posters are just too predictable.

There are going to be a lot of growing pains with a lot of young players and so early in the season. Anyone who wonders what's going on should make a point to listen to Donnie's almost daily press conferences. He lays it out for you - he sees what's going on, he knows Power didn't have his strongest game, he sees how guys were forcing plays. He's not concerned because he knows why and he knows how they'll improve. I posted this elsewhere but this should be required viewing before anyone starts ripping on Power or any of the other young players after one game.
