Prospect Info: Owen Beck

I will agree with that for sure but maybe Beck gets to Evan's level (what we see today) a few years earlier. Age 25 vs 28 for example?

We will see... Beck is going to start out from the bottom and work hard to move up. Like Suzuki did. Suzuki started 4th line RW in the NHL... didn't last long.

Would you say Beck is a Suzuki light type? Smart like Suzuki and a true type center but not as much offense? If not Suzuki, who would you compare him to?

There is a very large gap between Suzuki's puck skills/vision and Beck's puck skill/vision. Beck plays a simple north/south game without a whole lot of creativity whereas Suzuki is far more dynamic and creative. Beck is much closer to Evans than he is to Suzuki.

Maybe Beck will be ready for the Phil Danualt role already next year: the two way guy between a playmaking winger (Demidov in the Radulov role) and a scorer (Laine in the Pacioretty role):

Caufield - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - Beck - Demidov
Newhook - Dach - Anderson
Heineman - Evans - Armia/Gally

Young players, especially forwards, evolve quickly. You never know. The difference between beck and other more strictly offensive players is that he will earn his ice time because he won't cost us much if he isn't scoring.

Beck is 0-0-0 in 6 games right now. We are in big troubles if he start on our 2nd line

He is playing 9:45 a game not having a point in 6 games is normal. Among players who played 5 games or more he's ranking 65th for the lowest amount of TOI. There's nothing wrong with him playing 9:45 it's a good way to bring him in slowly but obviously he's not gonna fill the net with such a low TOI most good established 4th line players play more than that.

How does he look? I've caught maybe 2 periods of this garbage team in the past 2 weeks , I did see him zing one off the post the other day though
You can see he knows how to play hockey and is getting use to NHL speed. He reminds me Danault when he started on our 4th line.

I agree. For a bottom 6 player the smartest thing to do is play safe so that you earn the coaches trust by not making mistakes, and earn more TOI. Thats whats important , goal scoring is down the list. Beck is smarr and knows what he is doing and Im sure listening to the coaches.

Comparing him to Danault is correct. Danault was considered a career 4th liner but he kept working and developing. I see Becks toolbox as being better though. This is why i can see him with 2C upside.

He was hurting the tank: "No player had a better expected-goal share than Owen Beck during his four-game stint." Per eyesontheprize... They'll bring him up when winning games will help the team.
Except the real tank hasn't even started yet. :dunno:
That was just us being bad because of a lack of depth on D and the suspect goal tending that goes along with it. I mean we should have a much different roster coming out of the break. Hopefully it will be one that lends itself to experimentation and development and not one geared to pulling points out of our ass.

One of our better forwards IMO. You can tell he's still trying to play things safe but every game he's looked progressively more comfortable. He's really good at getting shots off through chaotic situations. Really good release.

Lane Hutson showed he deserved the first PP while he was on the second unit, cause the second unit was better than the first.

Nick Suzuki was making Nate Thompson like an all star when he was playing on the fourth line.

I didnt see Owen Beck deserve to be promote over Kirby Dach. I likes his intensity, his caracter, but I don't think he is going to be a top 6 forward. His right chair imo is gonna be as 3rd centerman

I see Beck as a player who should develop into a middle 6 center. He seems to have all the qualities needed to excel in a 3C role, but I can also see how he could contribute well in a 2C role offensively if he's with two highly skilled wingers. He reads the game well, so I think he could mesh with players looking to make skilled plays. He's really smart with the puck and doesn't only look for the simple play.
