I would worry about Mesar's overall game vs Beck's who is a lock to be an NHLer because of how he plays the game.

Production in the CHL can end up being meaningless since we saw Drouin put up over 40 goals and 100+ as a 17 year old in 49 games.
I've seen it happen often where a player has big numbers in the OHL and does nothing in the NHL. But, from my recollection, it's more rare for a player to have mediocre OHL numbers, and then put up good offensive numbers in the NHL. Danault and Bergeron come to mind. Would be sublime if Beck were anywhere near as good as one of them.

Evans is a dime a dozen player that could be forgotten and easily replaced. And no...we can't say the same thing about EVERY 4th liner of a team.
Almost.

Evans is used uniquely compared to other 4th liners.

He has taken the most faceoffs shorthanded by 12. He's tied for most wins. He leads for shorthanded faceoffs lost. 1 ahead of Tage, but Evans has 11 more wins.

7th in the league for defensive zone faceoffs taken. 7th for wins.

Would love to swap him for Michael McLeod, but Evans isn't quite a run-of-the-mill 4th liner.

We'll see how he does at camp. But the good news is he will be turning pro next year whether he's in the NHL or AHL.

Prospects I expect to be with either Montreal or Laval next year:
- Beck
- Mesar
- Hutson
- Tuch
- Reinbacher

Then they will need to decide on Guindon, Biondi, and Nurmi as their rights expire this upcoming summer. They also have Davidson, Tourigny, and Smilanic, who are minor league deals, but will need to be signed to an ELC. In Smilanic's case, if they keep him, I expect it will be on another minor league deal.

And then there's a curiosity whether they bring Kapanen and/or Engstrom over. They have until 2025 for Kapanen and 2026 for Engstrom. But both are free to sign and come over.

Although he was never seen as an offensively skilled played, Tuch was underwhelming somewhat at BU. I thought there was a chance Habs would not sign him based on his previous seasons/prospects in the system but based on this season and attributes he brings (tenacious big body), hope he signs!

Nice write-up Adam! Obviously it is early in the season and a lot can change, but I don't think the Habs will sign Biondi, Nurmi, Smilanic, or Tourigny. Davidson and Guindon I think are on the fence.

I do expect Adam Engstrom to come over next year.

Lots of intriguing prospects in the pipeline!!

We still have Suzuki, Dach, Dvorak and Evans under contract. There would have to be another move.
Just don't think Dvorak ends the season here

But yeah that does not guarantee Beck is on the Habs next year either, Training camp will decide

For now, let's hope he's a top 9 Center for Canada at this year's WJC and shines a bit
(It's funny to wish WJC gold and Memorial Cup presence/experience for him when he already GOT the 2 last year tho lol..)

It's more about the role he would have on this version of team Ca-nay-da.

Beck should be able to easily replace whatever Evans brings, whatever that is.lol
Yes, more than likely. But that still puts him as the 4th line centre which is such a Therrien move. If Beck is on the team I’d want him to at least be the 3C and get 12+ mins a game.
