It's the one aspect that hasn't quite translated yet . Then again, he was around 60% on the OHL, so his standards were real high to start with.I don't watch mch Laval hockey, has his faceoff prowess translated to the AHL?
The prospect changes, but the first sentence to a long bloated diatribe stays the same. For some variety change it up to 'In this writer's opinion...'There’s no one here who is a bigger advocate of Beck’s potential than this writer. I find it somewhat interesting that until just recently there was a prevailing sentiment that Beck had limited offensive upside and would only be a career bottom six NHLer. That sentiment seems to be unravelling.
Despite my optimism for Beck's potential, I don't think, he, or for that matter, any player currently in Laval can make a materially positive impact on the Canadiens. There are no white knights or quick fixes.
Unfortunately, the team is flawed and the 3 factors that helped make the team competitive most games last year (a top, functioning first line; above average goaltending; and a mobile defence) has largely been AWOL this year. Well, at least so far. Last year's top line has been so ineffective in most games that MSL was forced to break them up. Our mobile defence has scored a total of 2 goals in the first 16 games in this season. 2 goals! And our goaltending has, at best, been spotty as exemplified by Primeau's horrible performance against Buffalo this afternoon.
Until these fundamental flaws are corrected, the presence of Beck, Roy, Tuch or anyone else from Laval will have little positive impact. Let's keep our young players in Laval where they can play big minutes. Get stronger. Get faster. Get better. In the long term, that is a better approach for a player like Beck that many here thought was at best a bottom 6 defensive utility forward.
How things can change.
Can you advise him to come up and replace dach?Just a week or so ago I said Beck has to be harder on the puck.
3 unassisted's in two games man I love a player who listens to advice.
Arguably the most important games to date played over the last couple of days. He's so good
He's the best point-getter in Laval. His offense has been a really nice surprise so far
I think that will come when he gains more strength. It's the one aspect that hasn't quite translated yet . Then again, he was around 60% on the OHL, so his standards were real high to start with.
When he gets to know his opposition better as well.I think that will come when he gains more strength.
Beck has to be the next call up...he is starting to show that he is too good for the AHL.
Beck is an absolute gamer. He will be big stage playoff warrior typeArguably the most important games to date played over the last couple of days.
We've got one who shows up for the Big Ones.
I like Beck's game and he's as certain a future NHLer as you can get. But I think his continuing development would be enhanced by playing bigger minutes in more important roles in the AHL. With Beck's skating ability, offensive skills and shot, he can play at any level /level and not be embarrassed. But he will only getter stronger and faster as he matures. This is the first year of adapting to the rigors and physical grind of playing professional hockey. There is still an ongoing adjustment period for this very young player. I still think he needs to gain some stamina as I see a noticeable drop off in his level of play as his shifts proceed.Beck has to be the next call up...he is starting to show that he is too good for the AHL.
Once the season ends he heads back to Laval for a playoff runHot take of my Sunday: after trade deadline, he finishes the season in the big show, to never look back after. He will be money, money, money in 3-4 seasons.
And/or trade Evans for a nice haul at the deadline or before. Savard might have negative trade value at this point, he’s so bad. He’s the reason you don’t re-sign Evans to a bloated contract.
The Kid has played a ton of high octane responsible hockey these past two seasons.I like Beck's game and he's as certain a future NHLer as you can get. This kid has every element needed to be an impactful player at the next level. As I noted in my game summary, it was very interesting to hear the Toronto announcer's acknowledgment of Beck's high end skating ability. You would have to be blind not to.
Is a shame Evens contract end this year. I'm not 100% sure Beck is NHL ready for next season. Having Evens with us for one more season will have been great. I wonder what kind of money/years his agent is asking for. He’s the reason you don’t re-sign Evans to a bloated contract.
and that was the logic used for not resigning Danault, except Evans was the 1 replacing himHe’s the reason you don’t re-sign Evans to a bloated contract.
