When I think of today's stars it's hard because though I think McD has hit that star power level, he never had that rival that was also a terror to play from age 18 and on. It was a different feel back then.
This is a good point. The whole reason I got interested in NHL was because of the hyped rivalry between those two - it was a thing even in Finland, at least among my age group at that time. I ended up choosing Ovi as my favourite back then and because of that Caps ended up being my favourite team, but I have tons of respect for Crosby. Caps are going to be my favourite team after #8 retires but I truly wish we get to see another rivaly like that in the future with Bedard and Michkov, no matter which teams they end up playing for.

McD hit the ground running similar to Sid and Ovi but he didn't have that counterpart. So the hype was never full potential for me.

Batman needs the Joker and vice versa.

What’s the point record for a 37 year old ? Ovechkin is pretty much a PPG this season

Probably could beat goalscoring record for this age

Here's how Ovechkin's goal-scoring stacks up by age:

Ovechkin is "only" the leader twice. But his consistency is incredible (ten years placing in the top ten). He missed out on two years where he was likely to be in the top for his age (2013 and 2021) due to shortened seasons (lockout and COVID). And none of these numbers are adjusted for era (a few players - like Howe and Hull - would sometimes pass Ovechkin, but Ovechkin would almost certainly jump ahead of more players if the numbers were adjusted).
