The beginning of the season was a big adjustment for the Caps and for Ovi. Backstrom came back to play but was largely ineffective and then LTIRetired and Kuznetsov really struggled and then left the team. Those two guys have been his best and most consistent centermen throughout his career and they were two of the better PP distributors in their prime as well. The lineup is younger with guys like Strome and McMichael taking over the top six center positions. They had a new coach to adjust to. And it looked like he was injured and laboring. A lot of changes can be tough to adjust to even for pro athletes.

He seems much more confident and assertive now and his skating and shooting has looked better as well. The Caps are done for the year from a competition standpoint but hopefully Ovi finishes the year on a tear.

It is funny how quick people were trying to write him off again
Haters have been writing him off since 2010. Eventually they’ll be right and they’ll pound their chest and say “See, told you so.” I’ll just keep enjoying watching him play until he can’t do it any more because there’s a good chance we’ll never see another like him, at least not for a long time.

Let’s not forget this gem of a piece written in 2014. I may or may not have added a recurring calendar reminder for every May 29 called, “Happy Adam Proteau Day.”

Also factor in there is no Kuzy distraction going on. I think that was bothering OV a bit because it is his countryman and the team is playing better with Kuzy no being a locker room distraction.

I wonder if the author of this article is back from his vision quest. Not many things worse in life than an idiot with an audience.

Ah yes, 2014... When the Russia hate really ramped up. Tall tales of double toilets in stalls in Sochi and this gem of an article by Proteau fit right in.

57 goals from the record.
