Ovie needs two more goals to have 100 more goals than any other LW. (Luc Robitaille had 668.)

Admittedly, Ovie did play a year at RW because of Oates, though.

Ovie needs 6 more goals to have 300 more goals than any other Capital. (Peter Bondra had 472)

Ovie now has 571 more goals than any other Capital LW in history. (Bengt Gustafsson had 195)

Ovechkin is now 20 goals away from tying Gordie Howe's record for most goals scored with a single franchise (786).

One (obscure) record that I haven't seen anybody mention - Ovechkin is very close to becoming the all-time leader in powerplay ice time, at least since the stat was first tracked back in 1997-98. He's about 19 minutes away from the leader, Joe Thornton. Ovechkin will likely have this record sometime over the next few weeks.

Crazy to think Gretzky never scored 50 goals after age 28 yet Ovi did it at age 33, got robbed of 50 at age 34, and is looking again like he has a good shot to do it at 36.

Ovechkin has definitely been fortunate enough through things he can control and blessed enough through thing he cannot control to avoid career threatening injuries.

Where and when did Gretzky score his goal #766? There's pretty solid chance it was against Calgary too..

October 9, 1993 in the second game of the 1993-1994 season in LA against Detroit (he had 2 goals and 4 assists in that game).

He had 767 goals in 1,046 career games after he potted two goals that night.

He scored just 127 goals in the final 441 games of his career.

It is definitely pretty interesting. Using age 30 as an arbitrary benchmark, Gretzky scored .80 goals per game prior to age 30 and .34 goals per game age 30 and beyond. We'll see how Ovechkin continues to age, but as it stands now his goal scoring hasn't dipped much at all from before age 30 (.62 goals per game) to after age 30 (.59 goals per game).

It started to annoy. Less than for 2 spring weeks Ovechkin was likely robbed for a goal against Canucks (credited to Kuznetsov), robbed for 2 assists (against Canucks and Hurricanes). Please stop it

I'm already planning my trips to see him hit 800. Unsure if he sticks around for 895 anymore these days with you know what. Plus I think he really wants to play 2026 Olympics but we'll see.

Unless his production falls off a cliff he should already have the record by the 2026 Games.

Hell even if it does fall off a cliff he still might have it by then.

You cant be robbed of something you should never had in the first place, both these assists were correctly removed after review. Ovi was handed an assist on the goals until verified and he did not make it beyond that on merit, not any different than any other player. So there was no robbery, just a brief incorrect loan that was taken back.

Would love to see him hit 50 this season which I believe is doable...that'll put him at 780 goals total. If he can hit 40 goals each of the next 2 seasons then I think the record is within reach.

Sadly I'm not so sure he does it, the man is a freak but he'll also be 37 at the start of next season. Hoping to see him ease up on playing such a physical game so he can play as long as possible.

Up until very recently I'd have said the pace won't matter quite so much because he'll just keep playing till he hits it. Even if he falls off to a 20-30 goal range, he can hit it at around 41 (assuming 30-30-20-20-20). The man is an absolute tank and I don't see a timeline where he fails to hit 20 goals a season.

Under the current circumstances, I'm not so sure. It would be a crying shame if we missed the climax of this chase because of lockouts and politics.
