Can't argue with that, but his game overall was poop. They did give him the 3rd star, though.
He's 39 years old and he suffered a serious leg injury during the season. Do you seriously expect him to play like McDavid or prime Lindros or something?
He uses his offensive IQ and shooting skills to score goals and still comes up clutch. Most 39 year olds can't even play in the NHL.

I'm convinced he's going to pull it off this season now. The Jets are hard to score against and that was an important game (two best teams in the League going at it) and he potted a big goal. There's no reason to think he can't score six in 11 when he faces those teams in that stretch. He may score four or five in those games alone.

Almost 40 coming off a leg fracture and people judge him like he's 26 and should be driving possession for three periods.

There are three other 39 year old skaters this year - Burns, Perry and Suter. None of them will come close to 40pts this year.
Also, none of those guys broke their legs this year.

Likely when Ovie gets within 3 goals of breaking the record, Gretzky will start being in the building for every game, just as Howe did for him.
It'll be 5 goals for Gretzky and Bettman, they announced it earlier.

As someone that has watched Ovechkin abuse Tampa for damn near two decades, im in awe this guy fractured his leg at 39 and would've probably hit 50 goals again while chasing a record he still likely breaks.
Definitely one of the players that I've hated seeing Tampa play against, but will miss when he retires.

You won’t get to find out until next season, if he doesn’t break it this year. The Caps’ last game vs a Canadian team was tonight vs the Jets.
Looks like they’ll probably face Montreal rd 1 but 99 won’t be traveling for the playoffs

Lots of former players going to be following those games live too. I think Nicklas Backstrom, Alexander Semin and Ilya Kovalchuk already mentioned that they are going to be there following him when he gets close.
