Unfortunately Matthews and Ovechkin are both born September 17th so they're exactly 12 years apart. Ovechkin 12 years ago on march 12th 2013 was sitting at 348 goals. Matthews right now has 391 goals. So Matthews right now is still up 43 goals on Ovechkin at 27 years old and Matthews still has 12 more years of hockey in him compared to Ovechkin.Matthews has 391 G after 610 games.
OV had 380 G after 610 games which include biggest slump of his career.
In the next 25 games OV added 21 goals, so he was at 401 in 635.
I think Matthews will be around 400 mark by the end of the season with 19 games left.
Auston's GPG advantage is almost gone now at same point of their careers.
Question is, can he be at around 50G / 82 games pace in next 11 seasons like OV? Will Auston play 900 more games?![]()
This we have to wait and see about.Matthews still has 12 more years of hockey in him compared to Ovechkin.
Ovechkin is now #49 player All-time by primary assists (or #9 winger).
Scoring shot up during Ovechkin’s late career after being very low for much of it. Matthews has played in the high scoring nhl up to this point. It’ll likely be difficult to maintain a level similar to his current as Ovechkin unless scoring shoots up some more to get more like 80s level. Scoring is a bit down this year. If it were to drop for much of Matthews remaining career then I think he moves into clear no shot territory. Even staying around where it’s at will make it difficult as it would require Matthews to stay as good as he is now.Unfortunately Matthews and Ovechkin are both born September 17th so they're exactly 12 years apart. Yeah, Matthews started 1 yr younger, I was mostly accounting for wear/tear factor at 610 games.Unfortunately Matthews and Ovechkin are both born September 17th so they're exactly 12 years apart. Will be 13 more years. Age 28-40 seasons. (Gains a season more because Ovie misses his rookie one)So if Auston plays 12 more years, one more compared to OV, he will need 525 goals in those.
thx, fixed, miscalculated OV total, 20 is nice round numberWill be 13 more years. Age 28-40 seasons. (Gains a season more because Ovie misses his rookie one)
Would have to average 40.38 the goals over that span to hit 525 goals.
No one has the proven durability of Ovi until they demonstrate it for 19 years.Unfortunately Matthews and Ovechkin are both born September 17th so they're exactly 12 years apart. He missed like 56 games up to the start of this season over 19 seasons. That's like 3 games a season only.No one has the proven durability of Ovi until they demonstrate it for 12 years.
You are off one year. Ovechkin hat 348 goals 13 years ago at age 29, not 12 years ago.Unfortunately Matthews and Ovechkin are both born September 17th so they're exactly 12 years apart. Indeed, it's OV's scoring during the latter half of his career that is so impressive/basically unprecedented. Matthews won't be the last guy to score at this rate through his first 600 games. But scoring at OV's rate at ages 27-40? That's going to be VERY tough for anybody to match. You are off one year. Ovechkin hat 348 goals 13 years ago at age 29, not 12 years ago.
Ovechkin had 475 goals on his 30th birthday. That was 10 years ago.
Matthews might not even get to 475 in 2 more years. Even if he gets there, he wont catch Ovechkin.
A lot of guys had over 400 goals at their 30th birthday (Crosby, Stamkos, Kovalchuk). Nobody is coming even close to Ovechkin, because what he did after his 30th birthday
