almost 40, have a fracture mid season, 33 goals in 48 games, 2nd in GPG in a league where most have their prime at 28.
Also 56 goals in his last 84 games going to back to last season when he turned it around in the second half.

These days it's not uncommon for teams to pull their goalie down by three in the regular season.

You didn't see it ten years ago, sure. But it happens quite often now.

In the TOR/CAR game on Saturday, the Hurricanes were down by three and pulled their goalie with about 6:00 minutes left. They scored and then put the goalie back in and scored another, making for an anxious finish for Toronto fans.

I remember a game between TOR and BOS from earlier in the season where the Bruins were trailing 3-0 and pulled their goalie and TOR scored another immediately.

Carolina actually tied a game this way a couple of years ago, scoring three times at 6v5 against Winnipeg. Sadly they lost in OT, but it opened some eyes as to the potential for 3-goal comebacks.

In that case, the rally started with pulling their goalie with a little over 5 minutes left.

For some reason I seem to recall Patrick Roy making this a thing in his early coaching tenure. Reminds me of the analytics of 3-point shot. Abosultey game killer and horrible for anyone who bets on sports :)

I think you’re right about that, I recall Roy being an early adopter of pulling the goalie with more time on the clock. By extension of the same logic, it also allows for pulling the goalie with larger deficits. More time = more possibility

Not going to happen, but breaking the record this season and going on to win the cup. Would be an amazing poetic end to his career. This is the stuff of legends and every hockey fan should smile.

If he was American or Canadian it would be a much more high porfile chase. Ovechkin has been such a great professional for the game and Washgington, he has somewhat over come this Speaks volumes about the man and his character.

I'm hopeing the chase covoerage ramps up and we do get Wayne following him around. Anyone who watched Wayne chase Howe's goa record knows what I am talking about. This deserves the same level of coverage, if not more.
