So you’d be prioritizing optics for a record over points in the standings. Again I get it, but it’s dicey territory trying to manipulate games in that manner.

That’s a good point. But I imagine part of the calculus is that the Caps have a healthy lead in the race for the Eastern Conf 1 seed.

Although if they don’t start getting better goaltending that could be in jeopardy

Even if he were to finish behind “only” Draisaitl when the dust settles, this has to be more impressive than at least half his Rocket seasons I would think.

But yeah, I really like what he's doing this year. He's still important to that team.
