He's gonna get some rest from the 4 Nations tournament and be recharged for the stretch run. Would be amazing to see him break it this year.
Closing in on 40 coming off of a broken leg. Looked absolutely amazing and rejuvenated before that. Back checking, board work... you name it.

What’s with all the detractors lately? I can only imagine how many exist in the general public.
It reminds me of Hank Aaron passing Babe Ruth. A lot of people were disparaging Aaron’s achievements for ****ed up reasons.
Just enjoy the greatness. Many wont have the opportunity to witness a chase like this again.

NHL brass (and Caps management tbh) would probably be the happiest they could be if he entered the offseason tied with the record. They could spend the entire Summer marketing his next goal being the big one
With 24 goals this season ovechkin has already scored 6 more goals this season than he still needs to score in order to break the record. With the pace he's on this season he should add another 20 goals this season and finish with 897 carer goals if he plays all games. Ovechkin has been known for becomming better when huge milestones come up for him.
The bad thing is that Ovechkin faces a lot of teams that he's struggled scoring goals against down the stretch like 2 games against Columbus, 2 games against the Islanders, 2 games against Carolina and 2 games agagainst Pittsburgh...

100%. He looked like a new man before his injury this season.
A leg injury like that isn't a small thing to come back from.

we are closing in on legendary moment, hopefully this season
It will be legendary TV seeing Gretzky in the stand and celebrating even if Bettman is there too...
It is truly remarkable numbers, its going to take 18 50 goal seasons, or 15 60 goal season to beat.
so if a new phenom comes up and start doing 50 goals every year, he would be at least over 36 and a half when reaching Ovi, that is sick.
Seeing the numbers like that its even more impressive, and he is a deserving holder of it too for me.
Sat and watch some old videos of him delivering pizzas and make-a-wish stuff, he is
such fun carachter.

Incredible! And, unlike game winners, which are not always technically tie-breaking goals, game-tying goals are a more authentic stat, so to speak.

I think it's all tying goals not only those which lead to OT. It can happen several times a game and in games with loss (0 standing points).
Other than being elite at age 39 at the most important thing in the game, I agree, he totally sucks.
We'll take him in Toronto for a third and a cap dump

Most likely. But it makes it even more impressive. Big players should step up when your team is behind, and this stat shows how critical Ovi has been to the team.
