On one hand it’s a little sketchy and uncomfortable padding his totals with those empty netters. On the other hand he’s really amazing at doing it. Is actually kind of entertaining to see him be so elite at it. Better get used to it though because he will be out there battling for eng until he breaks the record.
Good. The more the better. The more ENGs he scores undermines the argument that this is somehow hurting the team.

He WILL become the GENSOAT.

Denying that is akin to denying reality, just five more to go now.

I don’t know how he could possibly be hurting the team. The guy scores an eng probably 50% of the time he is on the ice with the goalie out.

Capitals have now 217 regular season games left before Ovie turns 40 (happens during the off season on September 17th, 2025). Tying Gretzky before that "milestone" requires 0.452 goals per game from today to the end of 2024-2025 season.

why are you asking that. nobody has said anyone should pass up a chance to score a goal. the discussion was about whether ovie was out there because he is defense mastermind or because wsh is primarily interested in him increasing his chances at the record.

i have to assume you did not read any of my posts since you asked a completely irrelevant question, but thats pretty telling. ovis mega fans cant just admit its stat padding and instead have to try dress it up as something else.

anyway, keep pretending and goodnight. i am sure you´ll get a new empty net single season record to celebrate again soon.
I've read all of your posts and you simply don't grasp the concept of why having Ovy out there IS a form of defense. Last night ENG is the perfect example. How many Kraken players were between Ovy and the net? Try to figure it out from there>

I hope he scores nothing but empty netters the rest of the season and enough of them to win the Rocket

seeing people get mad about them is super hilarious

That was pathetic on Kraken part tonight if nothing else.

Does anyone else on the Caps score ENG or is the rule to pass it to Ovi for it? Lol

I don't get mad about them, but it's obvious stat padding at this point. At least the Caps are honest about it. Only Ovi gets ENG attempts.

And he’s absolutely great at converting them

ovi has a unique role where he floats around saving energy and then gets an easy ride while the other teams players are dead tired. ovi is an amazing goal scorer, but his empty net goals aint nothing impressive at all. he would already have 7 or 8 this season if he had taken his empty net chances, he has actually been poor at it thus far in 2022-23 and yet he is on pace to set a new nhl record again, that says it all about him being fed in a way we´ve not witnessed before in the history of the sport.

as hurricanefanatic pointed out, everyone but ovis fans admits its stat padding of the highest rank. thats whats so annoying.

Look at that, he's almost caught up to Gretzky! It's almost like great goal scorers get a lot of empty net goals too!
Gretzky also scored 2200+ assists, let’s not pretend they’re on the same level because OVI cashes in on some EN goals. Gretzky will always be the best goal scorer. Having said that, OVI is the best modern day goal scorer.

Except Eller scored an ENG before OV. Don't you get tired of embarrassing yourself?

Gretzky is not the best goal scorer. OV blows him away in rockets and top 3/5/10 finishes.

He was sort of just coasting at the Caps blueline when the Kraken had the puck. I mean, he could play some defense instead of cherrypicking and waiting for a pass so he can score a meaningless empty net goal with 3 seconds left. I don't know, maybe it is a nitpick. But last year he scored the most empty net goals in a season as anyone else with 9. And he's got 4 of them so far this year.
