I thought that was a clean hit. I see nothing wrong with it. Ovy probably got a 2 because the refs felt they owed a few penalties to Montreal after 2-3 bad calls in a row
You can, and should, when it goes through the head.
Really dirty by Scheifele on himEvans has bad luck for hits in the playoffs. didnt he get rocked a few years ago too?
It’s getting really bad. We’re like a year away from practically any contact being “suspension worthy” here.So do we just think every big hit is dirty and deserves a suspension now?
Hagel shouldn't have been suspended. Tkachuk shouldn't have been suspended (though he should have been considering that Hagel got a game for the same play, 1 game earlier). Ovechkin shouldn't be suspended. These hits are fine.
I will say that if this is Jake Evans hitting Ovi and Ovi pretends to be hurt for an afternoon, Evans is getting a 1 game suspension. That would be the wrong call, but the league has tipped it's hand on the "star players don't get suspended, people hitting star players do though, regardless of the legality of the play in either case." I personally hate that.
It lost meaning when the NHL removed it from the rule book. And yet some fans still believe it’s mere mention is a debate ender. I do love how those fans think that “blind side” is anywhere the hittee is not looking, even if the hit come from directly in front like this one or the Trachuk hit. It's a word that's lost all meaning, like woke or something.
Except Ovi would never pretend to be hurt. He doesn't even act hurt when he is hurt.So do we just think every big hit is dirty and deserves a suspension now?

Playoff hockey on HF - where every team is dirty and every player is a cheap shot artist (except for the team you root for).Playoff hockey on hfboards- where every big hit and/or penalty is a possible suspension
Thanks for posting, that gif proves it was a hit through the body, where if head contact results as a hit through the body it’s a legal hit, and it wasn’t late, within half a second, but 2 minute penalty was given, at least didn’t cost the caps.View attachment 1024483
BoDy MaIn PoInT oF cONtAct. He's 6'2 and Evans is 6'0. He shouldn't be more than a head above him.
This. You can hear Galley in the clip saying he looked to both referees after the hit and neither had their hand up.
Once again the Refs react to the crowd, and post little melee and decide to call 2 min interference. It wasn't.
Good clean, but devastating hit.
That's true, but it's what most guys do (like Barkov and Guentzel from my other examples).Except Ovi would never pretend to be hurt. He doesn't even act hurt when he is hurt.
I think the fact that Ovi leans out of it is also a great sign. It's a perfect hit, he could've destroyed Evans but instead keeps his weight into his core which saves Evans from a major concussion. Thanks for posting, that gif proves it was a hit through the body, where if head contact results as a hit through the body it’s a legal hit, and it wasn’t late, within half a second, but 2 minute penalty was given, at least didn’t cost the caps.
Great hit OV.
So it was a clean hut us what you're saying. The puck was long gone, at least a full second.
