Ovechkin hit on Jake Evans

OP only wants to see what he wants to see.
It was a hair late certainly.

Inertia post-impact causes Evans's head to move as the energy travels through his body. Not saying there's no contact but the initial is clearly shoulder/upper body and as others have mentioned, incidental head contact is not illegal. Not exactly picking the head on a standard east-west hit here.

Yes the referee who is the closest to the action missed it but @stl76 from his sofa know better.
Didn't know the NHL had infallible referees, where did you buy these ones?

That being said I honestly have no issue with this being an interference call and nothing more. And the Canadiens scored so Montréal is happy.

I don't know how you can watch the video and say puck was there. It wasn't at all. And main point of contact was the head, considering the head whipped back with force at contact.

It is 2025 and hockey fans STILL do not understand that you can get hit somewhere other than your head and have your head go back from the force. This was so clearly shoulder to shoulder. Ovechkin is 6'3 when he hits a player who is bending down even with good form it is going to look bad.

Get a grip.

The puck was long gone, at least a full second.

If you're watching it in slo-motion sure. Use a timer.

If the player had the puck a half second prior, is it interference? Where is the line?

It seems to me that this is not typically called interference, because the player just touched it a half second prior, and the Habs maybe got some home ice advantage with the officials. But I don't know the letter of the law on interference.

I used a timer. There was less than one second between the puck coming off his stick and Ovechkin making contact. So now what?

I used a timer, and came up with a sample of times from .4 to .55.

It seemed to be half a second or a bit shorter between Evans playing the puck and getting hit.
