I agree Scheifele isn't carrying his wingers and also agree Laine is playing much better defensively this season but Laine HAS to start scoring goals , he's supposed to be a sniper and he is anything but so far this season . I'm not picking on Laine , he just has to start scoring goals like we know he can .

its because of pomo's defense first offense second coaching that is costing the jets/laine's goal scoring.

Tampa winning the races to every puck after playing last night while the Jets had time off to prepare is just inexcusable.

The lack of emotion and heart on this team is deeply concerning.

Coaching and the leadership of this team, or lack thereof, should be under the microscope undeniably.

Yikes.
Thing is...before the game started the TSN Radio (thanks Sirius!) guys were wondering if Tampa's mind would be on this game, or on their break (since they have no more games until after the All-Star break) - unlike the Jets who have a few more games. Turns out, the reverse was true and it was the Jets who were already thinking of their break!

I have to say when a coach says i don't know what went wrong , that's not good . If we play against Chicago the exact same way as last night , it's time for a coaching change and this is coming from a guy who likes Maurice . A leader of any kind can't say i don't know .

How many times has Maurice said "we're going to burn this tape," "forget about this one," etc. this year? Seems like he's said it a lot. You think there is a point in time where if you've said it X amount of time, something perhaps is worth looking at and changing on your team?

Two quick observations/comments.
_ Team`s inability to generate offense or score on full display tonight. Everything peripheral quickly snuffed out by Bolts. Attempts by D to become involved in generation of offense usually lead to problems with turnovers and odd man rushes back. Clearly the team has not practiced any structured plays in the o-zone and lacks purpose (everything is spontaneous).

-- Interestingly enough, team gave up most chances and most goals off the rush - NOT off broken plays or misreads on defensive zone structure. There were far too many turnovers in the neutral and offensive zones that the Bolts really capitalized on. Suggests that the true problem last night was the play of the forwards in terms of puck management and then uninspiring backchecking.

I have attended a couple of practices and I have never seen them work on anything offensive system related. Generally just really basic passing drills and a lot of down low coverage drills and dzone battle drills.

He said after the game that he didn't challenge because he wasnt sure they would overturn it (with the refs and interference reviews this year, hes probably right) and he didn't want to risk injury on a PK because 7-1 vs 7-2 doesnt matter.

I don't think I agree with that reasoning - but I can see the point. Agree that there is no consistency to goalie interference.

I've worked under a number of great leaders, with a corporate track record to prove their achievements, and all of them at one time or another said "I don't know". It's called being honest and realistic. It engendered great loyalty from the staff to see that kind of leadership.

I'm not saying Maurice is a great leader or opining about his situation; I just didn't want your inaccurate generalization to go unchallenged.

And who is our #1 center then ? Wheeler ? Scheifele needs to play better defensively but he's still a very good center and he's under a great contract .
No interest in dealing 55. He needs a few more pieces around him and he also needs to devote more of his training toward becoming a complete player. He’s already above average offensively.

Just a couple years ago, 55 would mention "playing the right way" in almost every interview, that was his focus. Before that is was "playing a heavy game". I guess he just needs a new mantra and he'll remember how to play decently in his own end.

Not bias, common sense. Those who want Maurice to continue have a bias to mediocrity.
What's the difference between having an opinion and having a bias? Doesnt everyone who posts on this board (or breathes air for that matter) have a bias?

Despite your extreme bias, I would wager it has more to do with the outside advice he’s getting more then behind the bench. I think he needs to severe ties with Oates.
Scheifele is a huge hockey nerd. I can't see him abandoning defense because of something Oates is whispering in his ear.

He wants to win and I think he may have concluded that Maurice isn't the guy and has tuned him out. And then one of his worst games just happens to come the day after Gallant unexpectedly becomes a free agent...? Hmmmm...

Maybe. We have no way of knowing either way. What we do know is his “effort” has been subpar for about a year now.

Yeah it's all just speculation. I wouldn't really peg him to stage his own personal revolution against Maurice either - he's always seemed like a team player.

But nothing really makes sense. I think he knew things were clicking in 2017-18 and he would love nothing more than to recapture that magic.
