Three players in their prime years, we should add.

We're not talking big salaries on 32 or 33 year olds or Alzners.
Ha ! So true.

Nor are we talking about elite players that just won a couple of cups ................ (or rounds for that matter).

It's not until it is.

A stars and scrubs strategy can work. You're just going to have to use your stars more.
Team with the best scrubs and entry level players wins.

The billionaires go-to line each team will have will be a wash.

No one really knows until it's tested. Your stars can log in a ton of ice time and can be used on PP and PK.

Plus, you've seen how easy it is to sign 3rd and 4th liners, they're always available and they don't cost a ton to sign.

I agree. Top players can play PP and PK, and log a ton of ice time.

Like Bruins and Blues did.

Went right down to the wire but the Blues had better plugs and deeper D.

Leafs lose to the Bruins again.

Top 3 on each team are equal.
Top pair on each team are equal.
Goaltending was equal.

Bruins had better plugs and deeper D.

When one club does not have the big stars (Habs) and the opposing team does (lightening) well then of course the plugs are not going to be significant. But when the top lines of each club cancel each other out , the outcome could very well rest on who has the better plugs and/or entry level players. Especially has each round goes by.

Im talking play offs only obviously.

Regular season has become like shinny.

They got prime Sid and malkin?

They got 5 pretty good players (Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Rielly and Nylander). They overpay for them but it's a good core. If they build around them they have a fair shot. I think it's a better plan than having ad vitam aeternam cap space and doing nothing with it. Cap Space is a good looking player but he's not very good on the ice.

no hyman n dermott when they come off IR thats almost 4 m going on the roster

Are you sure? I calculated it 1 month ago and with Marner at 11M they were 2 millions over the cap or something like that. Most web site list a 25 players roster for the leafs. You can send 3 players to the AHL.

They basically have the same team as last season, with worse defensive presence.

That is not going to work, again.

Who? The Leafs?

I suppose adding Barrie is a nothing move :sarcasm: They pretty much revamped the whole defense outside of Rielly and Muzzin (and Muzzin did not play the whole season with them last year). Mikheyev is a interesting gamble too.
