The Hutson Hawk
Rangers also got Trouba.
Devils didn't really get anything unless Subban rebounds.
Wanna put some sportscash on that? 100k he beats his personal best.
(Oh and they added Jack Hughes btw)

he's got a bad contract. A really bad one. He's not a guy who's style will age well. that's pretty obvious. still overpaid by ~3M when he plays decent. But hey, I'm not the one who traded him the first or the second time.
That's not a revolt. We've been mediocre for 4 years. Is there a revolt outside?
They can rebuild. Molson doesn't want to because; profit.
The Rangers are rebuilding properly.
They were not trying to finish in 8th place.
They accumulated additional first round picks, not additional tablescraps.
Once that was done, they added Panarin, not Alzner.
And they called it what it was — a rebuild, no ifs, ands or buts. They committed to a strategy and didn’t hide behind simpleton platitudes like “other teams might be listening so we can’t tell you exactly what we’re doing. »
Lol did Merdevin actually say that?
I don’t see the kids as the future core right away. I think they are a couple years from making an impact (granted some might not make it) and there may be a few more years of frustration. I don’t expect to see more than one or two making it this year (probably only Ryan). This team has been a tweener for years just being average or worse and just tweaking to stay there. UFA’s won’t solve the problem.
They need to burn it down and do it right. If it was me I’d move just about every veteran except Gally, Danault, Domi & KK and go nuclear with youth. They can’t go quite that extreme because fans would revolt.
In the cap world internal development is crucial. Teams that draft and develop well will remain competitive. MTLs problem is they have done a piss poor job doing that but I see this changing.
If the kids pan out and demand crazy RFA money that means they are making an impact (Marner, Laine, etc) which is a great problem to have.
IMO, enough of just hanging around the middle. Go hard on youth & do it right even if it is painful for a few more years. There are no guarantee it will work but the other way hasn’t for almost 30 years.
Man Marner refused 11x8?
Holy **** , This kid thinks hes mcdavid?
Id trade his ass right ****ing now if i was the leafs
Who the ****s decline that.
What a clown of a player
We basically already rebuilt, we got kotkaniemi 3rd, sergachev 9th, and caufield was like a top 10 pick that fell to 15th. Got Suzuki (13th overall) in a trade
We had a lot of picks. The following drafts: 2018 + 2019 + 2020 gives us 33 picks. Thats almost the equivalent of 5 drafts.
And we also have young talented pro players in Domi, Drouin, Mete, Juulsen, Poehling, Fleury, Brook.
The only difference is that Bergevin used the word retool instead of rebuild.
We essentially got the same as a rebuilding team, but without needing to trade our franchise players (Weber and Price).

What's bothering me the most is that if this is a rebuild, it's done poorly.
If it's a reset, it's equally done poorly.
The fact that we Don't know which one it is AND that we're trying to make the PO is a really a prove of a team without no clear direction.
I'd argue that Pacioretty and Galchenyuk were part of the core.. you're gonna tell me we kept Weber and Price, but the Rangers did keep Lundqvist.A reset : You change the complementary parts around your core
A rebuild : You trade your core and replace it.
We are not rebuilding….We didn't trade our core.
NYR got what a rebuilding team gets.
Toronto got what a rebuilding team gets.
We got something in btw... And "hope" that a few good prospects (Suzuki, Caufield, Poehling) can exceed draft expectations and become Marner/Matthews/Kakko(?) type impact players... Before the wheels fall off Weber or Price demands a trade
I'd argue that Pacioretty and Galchenyuk were part of the core.. you're gonna tell me we kept Weber and Price, but the Rangers did keep Lundqvist.
Well said.Going with youth isn't a recipe for success. You keep talking about it like "It's the only way to go" which is not. All team try to do that. It' not something new or different that we are doing.
You see all those kids…..they are not there to improve the team, they are there to replace what we already have and that we are about to lose in the future either because of age or contract. Frankly, i'm not even sure they will be able to replace what we already have, at least let say i'm not sure they'll be better than what we already have.
Just look at this year….we need to replace Shaw with one of these kids.
We'Re not even talking about adding but just replacing.
We are actually re-bubbling...
The bonus is we won both trades by a wide marginBy respect for him cause they wanted to trade him and ask for his permission but he prefer to stay despite the rebuild.
And never forget that Pacioretty was never traded because Bergevin wanted to get assets for a rebuild/reset….he was traded cause Bergevin and Pacioretty were at each others throat cause Bergevin acted like an ass and kept blaming Leadership publicly (And as the Captain, Pacioretty took it personally ). Not to mention that he tried to trade him for Muzzin first, not the return we got.
And Galchenyuk wasn't a vet that we traded for younger assets, it was a lateral move (in terms of rebuild or reset) and then again (and it's something Bergevin kept doing over the year)….it never was about getting Domi, it was about getting rid of Galchenyuk…..just like it was about getting rid of Pacioretty.
I don't think players would be less receptive to what Tavares says, I think they'd more likely to be less receptive to what Matthews says as Captain. Say he's not the real leader in the room, and they slap the C on him anyway. It sells jerseys, sure, but it's a hollow gesture in the eyes of the team that, yes, looks to the captain in times of slumps and tribulations.Leadership on a team matters, my argument is that who is named Captain is irrelevant to the team's leadership. A team with good leadership is rarely led by one guy, it's always going to be a group of players and some of those players won't have letters but still be key leaders.
Put another way do you think Tavares will be less of a leader if he has an A instead of the C? Do you think players will be less receptive to what Tavares says if he's got an A instead of a C on his jersey?
This Marner saga is something else - they got greedy with Tavares, didn't need to sign him. It was overkill.
They'll get him under contract eventually, but it's bound to have domino effect on the rest of their roster.
yep ive said it before signing tavares was a mistake.....but i got shot down like you wouldn't believe.....i stick to my guns though and still say they had a great core without tavares.....shouldve signed or traded for a D
