Out of Town Thread - New Year’s 2025 Edition

Anyone else find it weird how the Rangers just gave up playing with about 15 seconds left. They just went behind their own net & killed time.

Yeah, they weren't going to win, but majority of teams would still battle to get a goal & prevent a shut-out until the final whistle.

Teams usually only do that with like 6 seconds left. There was definitely still time to move the puck & set-up an offensive chance.

He's really slow, isn't physical & doesn't shoot the puck. He's not the same player he was in his rookie season at all. He's also not what we need.

I don't care how slow he is, he's a top 3 defenseman in the league lol. Not his fault he's on a team of incompetents outside of Panarin (and was inexplicably paired with Lindgren for ages).

If you can find a single model out there that suggests he isn't an elite defenseman I'll be shocked because I've yet to see one.

He's definitely not top 3. These stats are from last season. He's been shit this season.

Like I said, he isn't what we need anyway. Last thing we need is another small D.

That's just not true though, he's been excellent this season (even when having to play over 600 minutes with Lindgren).

We've already seen with Hutson that size does not matter. If you wouldn't take 50 minutes of game time with one of Hutson or Fox on the ice I'm not sure what to say.

I agree about Fox being not ideal and what we want… but what we need, and what will make a definitive improvement to the roster are all different. Fox would be a massive roster upgrade.

We didn’t need Carrier but Barron->Carrier was a massive improvement.

If we get someone to replace Savard (so: a large & strong player) and who is skilled enough to leapfrog Carrier in the depth chart, it will have a massive impact. It will allow Reino to develop at a slower pace and with less pressure and growing pains.

Same applies to the 2C problem. What we need is a Joe Thornton/Ryan Getzlaf/Mats Sundin. What we want is Sidney Crosby (let me dream). What would make a definitive improvement would be Dylan Cozens or an equivalent more or less like Horvat.

I’m really eager to see how the summer shakes out.

Panthers are turning into kittens.

Awesome, I freaking hate that fan base. Their 18 fans can lick it.
yup, condescending little bitches is how I refer to that fanbase. The kicker - It's hilarious they're that smug over barely managing to win one Cup (yes, one - as in single, solitary, lone) - in their entire existence. And they did it with a team that was, and clearly still is, pretty mediocre relative to, say, their state rivals, among several other very good consistent teams that won multiple cups - Tampa, Detroit, Chicago, Colorado, Islanders, Habs. <SMH>

D I would take before Fox:

Q. Hughes
Makar
Werenski
Heiskanen
Seider
Sanderson
Theodore
LaCombe
Slavin
Harley

I think we'd be fine with any of those D, too.

Fox is in that next group with Evan Bouchard, Chychrun, etc, although I would put him at the head of that group.

I like D that play with drive & explosiveness. Fox definitely lacks the latter & hasn't exhibited much drive this year.

I don't want any more small defense if we have Hutson. You need to compliment what you have, not make things redundant.

They didn't draft Lane's brother because this is what they believe.

Yes, for sure.

Hutson is our #1 PP guy & key driver from the backend

That doesn't mean we can't have other offensive D, but we need to balance out the D with size.

If the Panthers keep losing, it's not out of question they fall into wild card spot.
Ottawa would be 4 pts back with a wind.

Somehow I think Ottawa would prefer playing Toronto than Tampa Bay.

Also, every time they get close to that #3 spot they go on a losing streak. They have a home & home with Columbus next, so hopefully that doesn't happen again.

Fox probably stole the most in undeserved Norris crown from PK.
