HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

No Seth, the great Canadian pressure would make your team lose because Elliotte and Kelly Buddy are too much and being recognized at the grocery store f***ing sucks man. :sarcasm:

With toronto's dismal game 7 record in the matthews era, I was curious to look back how the habs have done in game 7s since 2000

2004 - W versus Boston. This one was tight until the jabs finally broke the scoreless tie in the 3rd period. It was even more memorable because zednik scored both habs goals who was knocked out with a headshot by the bruins in the 02 playoffs.

2008 - W versus Boston again. This time it was the bruins who almost came back from a 3-1 series deficit after the Habs did it to them in 2004. This game 7 was not close though. I believe the score was 5-0 in the end.

2010 - W versus Washington. This one was tight throught. A PPG from Bergeron capped by a Dominic Moore goal late in the 3rd period. Washington got halak'd and couldn't stop commalleri

2010 - W against Pittsburgh. Habs stormed out to a 4-0 lead and it was still early. Pittsburgh eventually cut it to two and it was getting interesting for a moment but gionta put it away in the 3rd.

2011 - L against Boston. This one was tight all the way and the Habs scored late to send it to OT. The habs were shorthanded all series, and it was the year Boston just could not beat montreal and it was where pacioretty was shoved into the stanchion by chara. Whay a punch in the gut to lose in OT.

2014 - W against Boston. This was also a tight one. Briere put it away late in the 3rd.

2021 - W against Toronto. This was close on the scoreboard for the most part, but it felt like the leafs were already defeated before the game started.

So that's a 6-1 record overall. Not too shabby. I did this off the top of my head but I think I captured them all.
I would trade at least 3 game 7 wins for losses if we could change that 2011 L to a W.

Not only was that team very underrated but Pacioretty was also coming back in round 2. Most importantly, Boston never wins the Cup. I had to completely stop watching hockey for a year as I was too disgusted that POS Chara and rest of this despicable team won the Cup.

Markov was also missing. They punched above their weight that year.

I'll remember the headshot to halpern in game 7. He's the one that lost the faceoff on ot.

The 2011 one was heartbreaking. Toughest loss in a long time. Revenge in 2014 was suweet!

Kind of ironic that a former Leaf scored the series clinching goal for the Oilers (Kasperi Kapanen).

Some of the other former Leafs still playing in the playoffs:

Connor Brown
Zach Hymen
Mason Marchment
Carter Verhaeghe
Freddie Andersen
John Klingberg
Ilya Lyubushkin
Cody Ceci

Former Habs still in the playoffs:

Jesperi Kotkaniemi
Evgeny Dadonov
Corey Perry
Brett Kulak

I hate the Leafs and hope they never win anything in my lifetime, but I'm in agreement with Dangle and some of their closer fans in that the fact that some people are blaming the fans and the media for their playoff chokejobs are ridiculous.

It's on the players, period. There has been one constant in that whole mess and that is their core. It is rotten. The dude up top refused to change anything and even fired the one guy who wanted to (Dubas). These guys are not playoff dogs, never have been and never will be. You need them in your core group to drag everyone else into it. These guys have arguably one in Nylander and that's it.

How much do these guys need to be coddled in that the fans are now the reason? Premiere League soccer players would live in insane asylums. The New York Yankees or Dodgers would never win anything ever.

In order to win, you have it or you don't, and these guys don't. Period.

Halpern actually got booted after typical arbitrary linesman antics, which made me blow a gasket because the replacement Pleky was getting caved in all night on the dot :(

They had plenty of opportunity to recover but you could feel something bad coming after the lost draw

How do you blow up a team with so little in your prospect pool? No 1st round picks to offer. Win now at all costs is about to set this franchise back. Now you lose two players for nothing.
Marner will be remembered as the selfish player who nixed a trade at the deadline.
Toronto needs major shakeup. Give Bennett Tavares money. Gives them the will to win Leafs been missing. Give Ehlers some of Marner.money. Ehlers is 90 points with Matthews. Between the two should be enough saved to lock Knives up long term.

Leafs should hire Gary Roberts as President or GM. A I understand, he has his own fitness company now that is successful. He bleeds blue and white and maybe he could give these moviettes some backnone.

Friedman said on his latest 32 Thoughts, with Rogers now having 75% ownership and recent layoffs in the company, they’re expected to reduce management levels, eliminating standalone Pres of Hockey Ops position and having GM reporting directly to Scott Pelley, Pres MLSE

I like Craig Button, especially after he admitted being clueless when he said Montreal wouldn't win 1 game against the Leafs in 2021 playoffs.

But I like his take on the Leafs in this video:

1. Tkachuk and Marchand were probably trolling about how Toronto is just too much circus and pressure for this team despite them being super talented. If you're not able to perform under pressure, than you're not fit, that's what CB said.

2. More importantly, he gave the example of Zito didn't like the core he had when losing in the conference finals so went and change the fundamental of his team by trading away Huberdeau for Tkachuk. So if he were Treliving, everybody is on the table, including Matthews to be traded. Finally, someone in Toronto saying the right thing. Not just calling out Marner.

That's a different level of frustration if you're an Avs fan. How do you keep losing game 7s with a core like that? But they won a cup at least.

This Leafs team is basically making history. Very unique. I don't think you'd see another team like that. I pray the Habs never go through that.
