HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2025 Playoff edition

McDavid with his 3rd primary assist of the night.

No one has had so many A1s in the playoffs since Gretzky. Came to 1 away from tying Gretzky's single playoff record (25).

And he's keeping it up this year, although the run might be quite shorter this year, unfortunately for him.

Adds a goal and he's now at 99 points in his last 54 playoff games. A 150pts/82gp pace.

I think it's fair for fans to be asking for progress after 6 years of rebuilding (under Yzerman's watch).

To me, it feels like Yzerman tried to accelerate his timeline in 2022 and 2023 by signing his UFAs, when he should have stayed the course and continue accruing talents at the top end of the draft. Instead they slotted themselves closer to the no-man's land in terms of drafting power. Kasper, Danielson, ASP and MBN all look like they are going to be good NHLers, but I don't get the vibe that they are going to be game-breakers. Another thing is I don't think they got anything valuable in the lower rounds of the draft.

Would the Wings' future be brighter if they had one of Michkov, Carlsson, Fantilli, Celebrini or Demidov in their prospect pool? I think it would.
Looks like their ceiling will be a New York Islanders type team, without gamebreaking talent, who can aspire to sneak in to the playoffs most years but will never really be contenders. I see a lot of boring hockey in the future in Detroit.

Lol....

Contrast that with the culture Hughes' rebuild has set.

Suzuki & leadership group goes on a tear after GM "rewards" then by not trading away assets...

RedWings leadership instead blames GM for not adding help to "give us a spark on the ice".

That right there reflects the difference between a burgeoning culture of excellence and a rebuild that has failed to get the culture pieces right.
Culture? Nah, I was told by HF last year that culture wasn't a thing and we were just coping.

I'm afraid we'll fall into the same hometown kid trap when it'll be time to ditch Monty.

I expect Matheson will be the litmus test for Hughes about how he will deal with hometown kids.

The timeline seems clear to me, Monty's contract runs out in 3 years and he will be ~31 y.o. By then, Fowler will be 23 y.o and with another year left to his ELC and Dobes will be 26 y.o and should be on his new contract. I expect we should have clarity on those two by then.
