I was shocked when the Oilers announced they were going to be coming into this season with Skinner as a starter again after what happened in last years playoffs and even more amazed when they didn’t get insurance at the deadline. That should be a fireable offence for a GM regardless of how far they go if they lose in these playoffs. They have the team this year outside of goaltending.

It is hard to understand what went through their mind during discussions on goaltending. They decided to go into the playoffs not only without a #1 goalie, but also without a back up goalie.

They overpaid Nurse by at least a million, have 2 million in buyout on James Neal and Campbell at 5 million in the NHL.
That money could have went for a good young goalie.

He's not gonna live up to his 1st overall rank but i would not call him a total bust. He'll be a quality top 6 player. We have seen worse 1st overall pick.

There were talks earlier in the Vegas series that Heiskanen can't be a #1 dman on a cup contender which was absurd. As if top end players need to be perfect every game. Even McDavid for the past two series went from being excellent in one game to mediocre in the next game. Same for Mackinnon in the Stars series.

I think it’s too early to tell.
Lafreniere is a beast at 5on5 at his young age. He doesn’t get much PP time. I don’t think he will be a Lemieux, Lindross, McDavid, McKinnon, but if Lafreniere turns into a 2 way, physical, 60-80 points with leadership. I think this will have earned him his 1st overall status.
