Buying the peace. Oilers probably agreed to not match either OS for the compensations + 2028 3rd and Paul Fischer.
I think it was all bluff from Edmonton. A 3rd and Paul Fischer don't change a contender plan to match or not.

Not sure what you mean by bluff, they would have basically agreed to let go of Holloway and Broberg for a 2nd, 2x3rd and a prospect. Now they can bury the hatchet and move on.

The Blues took a very good risk and targeted a team that hasn't had its ducks in order for decades. McDavid instills an incredible work ethic within the team, but his efforts keep getting thwarted by a management that clearly has issues with risk management.

why does it feel like there's always drama happening in Philly?
It's definitely been amateur hour in Philly. Outside of the Michkov pick, Briere hasn't been very impressive.

Get close to a cup it's hard to keep team together
Not if your management is smart and good at contract negotiation (see HuGo). They may be able to keep moving out players not needed for future draft picks so they can turn over the roster while still contending. of course no matter how good they are a flat cap at any time would make it difficult.
